For those about to Punk!!! Understand and Know Your Roots,
By
This review is from: Punk and Its After Shocks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Originaly put together in 1980 as a film "British Punk", This movie is a great journey for kids in 2006 to see where their music comes from. Bands featured in this film are The Sex Pistols (one blissful year together), The Clash (london's calling!!!), Boomtown Rats (featuring Bob Geldof AKA PINK in The WALL, heavily influenced by the Rolling Stones), Spizzenrg!(geek rock), The Jam (darn good adapted and lived past punk), Secret Affair (Mod Rock, I Spy Record founder-to see today's influence, look at the Hives and The Strokes-all pale white guys on speed, Who "quadrapenia" Influenced, A Clockwork Orange stuff), The Police (US breakthroughs, Heavy Reggae influence), The Specials and The Selector (Two Tone records founders, Bands from Coventry England-Origins of Ska...reggae shines through-listen to Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Goldfinger), Madness (their house is in the middle of the street, London Ska (self coined "White Reggae"), Ian Dury (Disco/50/60's rock with punk vocals), The Pretenders (chrissie hind, a US influence), Gary Neuman (On the upstart Beggars Banquet Label (the cult's label ect..)Influenced By Bowie and Ziggy Stardust Years, seen now in bands like orgy, deadsy, and crossbreed). Finally, The Kinks, mid 60's innovators of the punk sound. There are a lot of Rolling Stone moments glimmers in this whole film (beggars banquet for instance). The intro with Bob Geldof, and interludes between bands are full of small references and good scarce facts that make this documentary a must have for music fans. This is as good of film as "The Decline of Western Civilization" The Punk Years. Get this film if you are a punk fan.

i thought this was a very good video if your a true punk fan. Really catches the image, bands and feeling of the new wave punk. I thought it was a very good video but i gave it 4 stars because of the exesive cursing.

Decent content, poor media or transfer,

This review is from: Punk and Its After Shocks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I found this to be an engaging video, solely for it's content and presentation. However, I have to knock off stars for the poor quality of the VHS transfer. The audio drops out, is noisy, and "crackles" in too many places. I've encountered this on two copies of my own (wore the first one out) and on a friends. So this seems to be a problem for this tape. However, it was so nice to see such great live footage of classic songs and bands in their heyday. |
