5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS
I have been a fan of Schlong's unorthadox style of conceptual music for a long time. This album showcases Schlong's as well as some very large scenesters' talents. I envy the select few who actually got to see them perform this musical live. The idea of getting blitzed and putting on a musical (especially West Side Story) is pure genius. 3.0 out of 5 stars ehhh.
Schlong has an original style. I grant them that. And some of the songs are good. However, the whiny, screeching vocals get old after a while.
One high point: the finale. I listened to the one song over and over. ANd laughed every time.

To be true to the spirit of it, the band got drunk during the taping (which becomes evident near the end of the disc). This album works for anyone who loved West Side Story and anyone who likes punk. This ain't no cover song, this is Schlong.

I first saw Schlong at "The Lab" in Ann Arbor, MI. I have been a fan ever since. This is one of the best (anti-)concept albums ever. Just sit back crack open a bottle of something frothy and join in the fun. You'll know most of the songs. Members of Nusiance and Jaks highlight this record. If you can find any of the CDs from the guest bands I highly recommned those as well. Jaks is incredible (Shawn, Sean, Jessica, and Katrina--best wishes).

This is the best album ever produced on planet earth! It's got more emotion than any other rendition of WSS. It would be worth a time travelling machine to go back to Oakland and see this performed (if it ever was). Pulling this off shows a intense sense of determination very rarely accomplished in the art world.
PS. I am absolutley in love with Melissa MacArthur's voice! Better than Julie Andrews, Jenny Haah and/or Betty Carter. Please, is there any more out there? I must know!

This the way the West Side Story was supposed to be. Gritty, grundgy, from the street, and from the crotch. A collaboration some of the most incredible punk talents of all time.
