5.0 out of 5 stars PUNKS NOT DEAD! That says it all
The Exploited are what hardcore old school is about. And they said it all on LIVE LEWED LUST and LIVE IN JAPAN . So if you are a real punk get this album and just fuck the bollocks and join THE EXPLOITED BLARMY ARMY.

3.0 out of 5 stars For Christ's Sake
I like the Exploited and I love their music. And note that I'm not a "punk rocker" because most people who claim to be "punk rock" are just a little clique that accuses everyone of being a poser. Everything is about being "punk rock" and it gets old. Just grow up and stop whining about your punks and posers.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the first, One of the best., January 7, 1999
This review is from: Punks Not Dead (Audio CD)
A direct rebute to CRASS's song "Punk is Dead". Not the best of friends with CRASS; listen to the title track. I personally disagree with alot of the politics of this band (especially, but not limited to, the roumours of their occasional partial neonazi affiliation), but the music is by far first rate. I'm a big fan of The Exploited, up until the "Beat the Bastards" came out. This is a represenation of the lads in their heyday, back before P.C. was as important as it is now. Buy this cd if you are tired of hearing about how "punk rock" greenday is. You'll see why the older punks can't stand mtv and it's garbage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grow up., January 8, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Punks Not Dead (Audio CD)
"Anybody who listens to "Punks not Dead" and doesnt love it is just a trendy poser who should be listening to watered-down bubblegum MTV pop punk."

That is one of the stupidest statements I have ever read. People that don't like this album just don't like this album. There is nothing WRONG with that. I bet you think you're so PuNk RaWk for saying that. Well, let me tell ya, that statement is more poserish than a bad review. Oh, by the way, you're an idiot. :)

Anyway, this may not be a great album, but it's got some pretty fun songs on it that are fun to blast. Like "Army Life" and "I Believe In Anarchy". If you're looking for something you can enjoy listening to that you really don't have to think about, then I suggest this album.

PS: I'm older than 13 and I'm not a punk. The reviewer below just pushes me even farther away from the punk scene...

4.0 out of 5 stars Raw energy, no pretense, July 11, 2005
This review is from: Punks Not Dead (Audio CD)
Along with Troops of Tomorrow, another punk classic, this album hits hard with its simple raw energy. No listener should expect an enlightening experience. Another review attempted to make a point by rattling off band after band in some weak comparison. But the Exploited's real message isn't contained within a bunch of pseudo-intellectual lyrics. In fact, much of the music lashes out against this exact type of uptight poser attitude. It's all about the energy and the agression.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brutal British Punk, August 7, 2001
This review is from: Punks Not Dead (Audio CD)
It's difficult to overstate the significance of this album. With the death of Sid Vicious in the late 1970s, many people happily announced that punk was dead. Little did they realize that punk music hadn't even begun to make its mark. Garry Fielding of 'Beat of the Street' magazine is quoted in the liner notes of the CD as saying, "this album and The Exploited will be more important in ten years than any of their so-called 'trendy-indie' peers." Let's call the man a prophet, because he got it right. Now, twenty years later, this album is still considered by many (including myself) to be THE best punk album ever made.

The songs are furious and brutal, sometimes serious, and often really funny. Yeah, that may sound contradictory, but listen to the album and I think you'll agree. There aren't many bands that can laugh about a serial killer in one song ("Yorkshire Ripper: 15, Mother's Love: Zero!") while turning serious about the policies of Thatcherism in the next tune. For all you Americans (like me), don't be turned off by the UK-centric feel of this album. The Exploited have plenty of venom for America and Ronald Reagan, too.

Incidentally, because the issue has been raised, let me point out that bandmembers of The Exploited were NOT into nazism. They weren't neo-nazis or holocaust deniers. Please remember that many punk bands of the time adopted the strongest symbols they could find, from swastikas and anarchy symbols to mohawks and bandoliers. This wasn't done simply to be shocking and offensive, but also to repudiate the then-prevalent notion that only middle-class, clean-cut kids could make music. If you don't understand that there is a difference between self-expression and outright adherence to nazism, maybe this album isn't for you after all. I realize that any inappropriate display of nazi iconography offends certain people, but The Exploited are not facists and never were. Anyone who thinks otherwise should listen a bit more carefully to the lyrics.

This is the classic Exploited sound. Oi with attitude and real good taste. All tracks have great power of full hate and awesome rage. No doubt, highly recommended.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Punks Not Dead (Audio CD)
Anyone who doesn't like this is a trendy sell-out pop punk loser? That is one of the stupidest things I've ever read. Honestly. Grow up, people. Do you even know the definition of 'opinion'? Well, judging by that review I read, I seriously doubt that.

Anyway, this is a pretty moronic record, but it's fun to listen to nonetheless. It's also fun to blast. Woo!

5.0 out of 5 stars Punk wasnt dead in 79...now it's another story, November 2, 2001
By
This review is from: Punks Not Dead (Audio CD)
This album was titled mainly as a stab on Crass's song "Punk Is Dead"...Crass point of view for pronouncing that punk was dead was very relevant in that punk in the late 70's was sold off to the corporates for money denouncing everything punk had begun to stand for. In my opinion I think it was this album that spewed forth the now cliche punk idealisms...it was pretty much this release that would put the british hardcore/street punk/oi! movement from the late 70's into the early 80's into full gear for a rip roaring movement.

Politically charged lyrics and fast aggressive music and a lead singer who was probably the biggest jerk in the world made up for a chaotic time in punk..and we got bands like Anti-Nowhere League , Chaos UK , Varukers , UK Subs , Special Duties , and many others because of this.

Holds up well today musically and lyrically except in the hard to accept fact that once again...Punk is Dead...maybe..;)
