5.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT for Blink fans
The Casualties are the most DIY band exisiting at the moment...like all the bands on Punk Core Records they are bringing back the era of old fashioned street punk/oi! that was lost in the 90's because punk got too poppy. It is very true that punk is not what you wear , but it doesnt mean going balistic either because you see this band dressed this way...The Casualties are...

3.0 out of 5 stars something we could live without
For the Punx gets 3 stars from me simply because it can be fun to listen to at times. Warning: its very easy to be drawn in by the image of these guys looking overly "punked out" on the cover of this record. The content however, is sorely lacking. There is very little intelligence to be had. Consider this: "Oi! We are the spikey haired drunk...

The Casualties are the most DIY band exisiting at the moment...like all the bands on Punk Core Records they are bringing back the era of old fashioned street punk/oi! that was lost in the 90's because punk got too poppy. It is very true that punk is not what you wear , but it doesnt mean going balistic either because you see this band dressed this way...The Casualties are simply showing off their love for old style fashioned street punk including the fashions of that time.not only that but they play some fast and loud music without a care in the world for the "rules" and the whole "hey punk is about making a difference" things...they believe in punk for the sake of punk

This album "For The Punx"...is a slice full of the raw street punk sound. Lyrically...hey they're not college professors..but that doesnt make this album any less enjoyable..the songs are repetive in choruses ..but lyrically it doesnt matter anyway because Jorge's vocals are so nasty nobody can understand a word he says without a handy lyric sheet...but some of the lyrics on here are actually good "Destruction and Hate" is the best example of this when compared to "Punx & Skinz"..or "Punk Rock Love"..

Musically it's thrashy and loud...and even in some places melodic("Punk Rock Love" which is actually a parody of cheesy love song punk ). Other faves is "Chaos Punx"..( which the lyrics are sung in spanish ).."Ugly Bastards"..great song with great lyrics

"Casualties"..with a funny excerpt in the begining
"For the Punx" , "City Life" , "Police Brutality"..just a great street punk album

This album represents what good punk rock should be...simplicity..that was what punk was founded on..look at the Ramones who are considered to be one of the greatest punk bands ever..dumb lyrics , 3 chords , it works

The Casualties don't wanna just sell records..they don't care about being rock-stars...it's punk rock for the sake of punk rock..no cliche idealims...and raw oi!

Buy this if you are a true street/oi fan

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, July 12, 2003
By
This review is from: Lefty's Deceiver (Audio CD)
After coming by to see the reviews of others punks like myself, I can fully understand what The Casualties are talking about. Come n 4 reviews, I mean the music is genius. Even the punks arent real punks, they are listening to The Ataris, and bands like Brand New, who dont get me wrong is a good band to listen too, but they do nothing to make no diffrence. This band is trying to find the middle ground that will eventually lead us to a Utopia which will ultimately be messed up by the masses. The superficial music, including punk, that is out know has driven me crazy. Its about time that music makes a diffrence in our life. The Casualites are that band, which will make a diffrence in the way you think, and not to mention their hair is awesome. If you are going to listen to music that makes a diffrence Im glad your thinking of starting with The Casualties, but dont forget about bands that opened those doors. Minor Threat, The Dead Kennedys, and the thousands of other bands that will go un-named because of I dont know who to start with. Once more dont forget about the new bands who are trying to make a diffrence, such as Anti-Flag and Good Riddance, untill we start listening to music that makes a diffrence, nothing will change, and if nothing changes then we are in for a rough future in America, rock on, and say goodbye to individualism.

5.0 out of 5 stars Their best album, November 25, 2001
By
This review is from: For the Punx (Audio CD)
I write this without having heard much of their recently released "Die-Hards" disc, but as far as I am concerned, this is the Casualties' best album. Punk Rock Love is an awesome song (if you listen closely, the guitar chords are actually the same as the Misfits song "Skulls", which is sort of weird, but I love that song too). Punx and Skinz is fun, and Casualties has a clip from the movie "Return of the Living Dead" at the beginning, which wins this CD major points because it's my favorite movie.

As some of the more intelligent reviewers have observed, the Casualties are what it means to be punk. I don't mean that you have to have liberty spikes and studded leather jackets; I mean their attitude. They don't care what "society" thinks of them, they act how they want. To "A music fan" from Texas...have you ever been to a Casualties show? They are as far from Blink as you can possibly get. They play tiny venues to small crowds, BECAUSE they are the opposite of all that Blink and junky mainstream punk stands for. It's not the Casualties that misunderstand punk, it's you.

Summary: Incredible streetpunk album, if you're into that style of music, I can almost guarantee you'll like this. Check out "The Anger and the Truth" by the Unseen too, it's another great one.

In the 1990's..street punk is pretty much dead and forgotten...bands like Blink 182 , MXPX , Sum 41 and others claim themselves "punk rocking" and define to the masses what punk rock is. Then there is the Casualties. This is their debut album ..12 fast snotty songs played superfast with probably some of the dumbest lyrics you can find ( thats what makes them great ) and features now classics like " Punk Rock Love" , "City Life" , "Punx & Skins" , "Destruction & Hate" and "Ugly Bastards" , and "Casualties". Spikey hair , mohawks , leather jackets and spikes and studs ...this is punk , Blink fans may find it too scary...good...we don't want them buying it anyway

the casualties is an oi band from nyc which was very hard to find in days when they started. the casualties were formed to take back punk rock from the hippies and the crusties and once again make it FOR THE PUNX! for the punx was the first full lenghth album with songs of love, hate anarchy, and unity. but with hits like for the punx, punx and skinz, two faced, and police brutality the casualties will live on forever! in case you are not understanding what I'm saying her it is in layman's terms IF YOU LIKE PUNK ROCK YOU WILL LOVE THE CASUALTIES!

5.0 out of 5 stars genius!!!, October 7, 2005
This review is from: For the Punx (Audio CD)
one of the classic street punk albums of the ninties. up there with lower class crusifixion, so this is freedom?, rancid, grimple up your a$$, die for your government and killer blanks. its that good. the thing i like is that its not as hardcore and thrashy as later albums. Its more oi and street punk. yeh some songs are hard, but its got more of a fun feel, that later ones dont have. It shows that casualites had an amazing sound early on. I love every song on this cd. for the punx starts it off powrerfully, ugly bas**rds will be stuck in your head for the rest of the month, city life is an intstant classic, riot is a perfect moshing anthem, casualties just rocks, whos gonna be is a heartfelt surge of adreneline (???), police brutality is just fun (the song not actuall police brutality), punx and skins tears your ears up, destruction and hate is orgasmic, two faced is plain awsome, chaos punx is spanish, and punk rock love is an all time classic. As for the live tracks, well they are amazing. the recording plainly sucks. Half the time i can hardly hear Jorge, and the back up vocals are super loud. But the feel it generates is just, well street punk. thats all i can think of when i hear these tracks. this album is by far the best, not counting early years. early years may have this beat. But as for actuall albums, this smokes everything else. so go get it. now.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Punk Album from the Ninties......, August 6, 2005
This review is from: For the Punx (Audio CD)
Ok first off this cd is actually a reissue from 2000 on PunkCore Records and has been remastered. Oi, normally when I've seen remastered on a punk LP you know to just stay away....But, there was some quality control errors on the TribalWar (1997) and right before PunkCore got ahold of this it was also on GMM records (1998/99). The Cover for the origional releases had the photo on the inside of this version on the cover.
Ok, now we got that settled nobody's mention the bonus tracks to this great cd. There's four bonus tracks recorded live from 1997 at KDVS FM, Davis, CA while they were on tour promoting this album.
Bonus Tracks
13 For The Punx
14 Ugly Bastards
15 City Life
16 Who's Gonna Be

If you don't know who the Casualties are they are a great Street Punk/OI band thats got the classic style of '77 and '82 punk. They sound a lot like UK Subs early ep's and took a bit of The Violators and Blitz with a bit of OI and there you go....

4.0 out of 5 stars think and learn, more importantly experience before judging, November 18, 2002
This review is from: For the Punx (Audio CD)
Basically all there is to be said in this review is that if you are one of the kids writing about how the casualties aren't punk, they just dress it, your completely off, that's all there is to it. And if you somehow find blink to be punk, your way off there. Blink 182 plays pop-punk, or bubble gum punk as some like to refer to it. The casualties play punkrock, also known as oi punk, the comparison between these two bands serves no justice to the casualties, and to say they aren't punk is a horrible thing to do because it's so far from true. Yes, anyone can grow a mohawk and dress like them, but they're attitude and lifestyles show that they are punk. being a "punk" is not just making music, it's living life in a different way that the norm. Not to be different, but because it's how you choose to live. they aren't dressing that way, or making this music to be different, they're only doing it because it's who they are, and the music they love to make. Blink 182 on the other hand is making that music, and doing what they do so that they can make money. who's punk now?

The Casualties are a great American Streetpunk band. For The Punx and Underground Army are my favorite cds of The Casualties, Stay Out Of Order is a great album as well, and Die Hards is good but not as good as the others. For The Punx shows lead singer Jorge's vocals at his best, his vocals are good in both English and Spanish(the song Chaos Punx is in spanish) For the Punx is a really good cd. Oi! Oi! Oi!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure punk rock, January 16, 2005

Call it punk, call it whatever. Doesn't matter, this is a brilliant CD. Fast, aggressive, roaring vocals, street anthems, everything that makes a street punk album great. There are detriments, and those are the lyrics. The lyrics are indeed not the greatest at times, but it is what it is, and that's 30 minutes of punk rock glory, taking no prisoners.

Jorge's voice is a little higher than it is on their later CDs, but it has the same harshness every Casualties fan loves (or tolerates). I personally find his voice to be perfect for punk: harsh and truthful. These guys mean what they sing, and despite everyone calling them fashion punks or whatever's trendy to call people nowadays, the music is brilliant, raw punk, and isn't made to be anything more. Buy this CD if you're a fan of The Casualties or just a fan of American street punk in general.
