5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best product I've ever purchased.
I highly recommend the PupLight to anyone who walks a dog at night. I like to walk at night with my three black dogs. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great Light...not for toy dogs
Great light. Nice and bright. Perfect for walking and being able to spot your dog at night. However, I have a 7 pound Toy Poodle and unfortunately, he's too low to the ground for the light to be comfortable. It hits him in the front of his legs when he walks which slows him down and distracts him quite a bit. I wouldnt get this particular light for dogs under 10-12 pounds...

I highly recommend the PupLight to anyone who walks a dog at night. I like to walk at night with my three black dogs. Before I got the lights, people would zoom past me at ten miles an hour over the speed limit, and I would pull my dogs way, way off the road any time I heard a car approaching. After I put the lights on them, I was amazed at how cars slowed down and gave us room. Cars now drive the speed limit or slower when they go by us. Many pedestrians have commented on how great the lights are. Without the lights, people used to think my three large dogs might be dangerous somehow. (They are as gentle as kittens.) With the lights, people find my dogs approachable and friendly. Before the lights, no one would ever stop to let us cross at the crosswalks, but with the lights, people stop and happily wave us across.

Also, these lights help to see where we are going. I carry a flashlight anyway, but most of the time I don't need it since the dogs are lighting our path. The batteries last a long time. We have used them in the rain with no trouble. They are easy to get on and off, and they are adjustable to all sizes of dogs. They are just plain fun to use. I find that I am walking the dogs more often and farther since we got these lights. I can't recommend this product enough, and I wish I had gotten them many years ago.

One note of caution: do not leave them on your dogs when you are not with them. My two youngest dogs had them on while I had to run back in the house for a few minutes. They wrestled, as they often do, and one of the lights got pried apart by a canine. I couldn't find one of the batteries and thought the youngest might have eaten it. Fortunately, I found the missing battery after a long and thorough search. Don't leave your dogs alone with anything that contains battries, including the TV remote.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for walks at night., March 15, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this for my golden retriever so I wouldn't have to carry a flashlight when we walk at night. It definitely is bright enough to light a small path ahead of us, but a flashlight does go farther. I don't think that's much of a drawback, just wanted to be sure folks know that you can only see a short distance ahead with this light. The collar that accompanies it is very lightweight and stretches so you can just slide it over your dog's head. My dog doesn't even notice that he's wearing it, but he's a 70-pound dog. I would recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Puplight Safety Collar, May 30, 2007
This review is from: PupLight Dog Safety Light, Red (Misc.)
The collar was a huge success for our timid Maltese who dislikes going outside at night as it lighted his way, and he'd remain out longer checking out whatever came into his view. The collar is adjustable and used only on nightly strolls. I'm eager to hear the neighbors feedback who look out their windows and wonder!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lights for dogs, December 14, 2007
This review is from: PupLight Dog Safety Light, Red (Misc.)
I love these dog lights. I bought three of them, two red and one blue. I have mini dachshunds, who are very close to the ground. The lights work great on them. I also bought another version, called a Neklight, for me, which is the same thing but hangs around my neck. The lights are very bright, long lasting, and also very light in weight. I don't need to carry a flashlight when I have these lights on, a real bonus for nighttime walking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't walk the dogs at night without one, September 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have owned two for almost a year. I walk 4 dogs at night. All four dogs and myself use safety vests. Two dogs (pug and a 50 pound mixed breed) wear LED lights and I wear a LED headlamp. The dog safety lights are very bright. After a year of heavy use, one light hinge has broken and 2 of the 3 LED lights do not function on one light. The other light still works fine. Lithium batteries last longer but walking the dogs for 30 minutes every day, I have to change the batteries about every 4-6 weeks. Since I walk on an unlit winding country road with frequent rain in Oregon, the lights are great. The pug definitely sees better. The neighbors appreciate spotting us easily. Opening the light to replace the battery can be alittle difficult. The switch tab can come off with heavy use. I will continue to purchase and recommend these lights.

5.0 out of 5 stars As advertised, mostly, November 6, 2009
The lights are sufficiently bright. I use it when my dogs are running on sports fields, so I cannot really comment on the notion that the lights are supposed to help older dogs see the ground when walking. When the dogs are running, the lights bob up and down. I considered getting a glow/lighted collar, where the lights go all the way around. I'm glad I didn't. When the dogs are running, they don't really go in straight lines, or, if they do, they don't do so for very long. So, with the dogs' natural weaving, you can see their position even if they are mostly facing/moving away from you at the specific moment. Also, when you call your dog, you can immediately tell if he/she turned his/her head to you (as acknowledgment or to start coming back), because it's noticeable when the light points at you after mostly pointing away. From 100 yards (300 feet) away, you can see the light if it's pointed at you. From that distance, if the light is pointed downward, you can usually see some splash/spot on the ground, even if the dog is mostly pointed away from you. Yes, it's possible for the dog's position to totally or almost totally block the light. But if you known your dog's general position, you'll be able to notice something most times even at a far distance. Only if the dog is digging or pointed directly away from you, will you not see him/her. Any weaving or meandering, and you'll see a splash/spot of light on the ground. Think of a small flash light pointed downward.

The light color is a white, almost blueish. It will make your car's headlamps seem yellowish.

With regard to flashing/strobbing lights, and the idea of those lights causing seizures in dogs: If your dogs will be running around with this light on, then the beams of light will be bobbing all around. Also, as the dog turns and weaves, the light beams will strike you (or other dogs) as more intense, then less intense, then more, etc., based on the instant position. Thus, even with this steady light (which is either solid on, or totally off), the light pattern is not totally fixed, as it is for a porch light. Having said all that, I haven't noticed any degree of displeasure/seizures with my dogs. They don't seem to notice the lights.

I've been using these for 2 weeks with ordinary, generic, alkaline batteries. Probably a total of 1 hour per day, and I leave the batteries installed between useages. I haven't noticed any decrease in the light brightness. Each light requires three AAA batteries.

Look close at the photograph: (1) The light clip slide on to the belt. At the very left of the light unit, you'll see a gap between in the plastic, which is intended and allows it to slide onto the belt. It's an acceptable design, however, I once had a light fall off (probably my fault/inattention in putting the collar on my dog). Still, to be extra safe, I put duct tape over the gap, which should prevent a similar occurence in the future. (2) Notice the screw head? It's small and grey in the photo. That is the adjustment for the light's orientation. You can turn/move it for a higher or lower angle. I use the most extreme "downward" angle. However, even on a more "even" or "upward" level, the light's position and design won't really beam into your dog's eyes.

The belt is very elastic. It clasps in the back/top with a 3-prong clip (think of the clip on a fanny-pack or a life preserver). I leave it clasped all the time, because it is so elastic that you can just slide it on and off your dog. The belt comes with an extension section. I have border collies, and the belt is plently long without the extension section (becauase, again, it is rather elastic).

With regard to water: My dogs drink out of bottles, so some water splashes onto these units. I haven't noticed any problems and, based on the design, I doubt that I will. These are not water-proof and probably cannot legitimately be called water-resistent. However, typical splashing won't be a problem. Even if you have a problem, this is a very simple device. It's just battery connections to a basic light - no complicated electronics. So don't fret about electric shock to your dog, and if it gets too wet, it'll probably recover once dried out.

I was very surprised at the quality and of course great price here at Amazon! The light is very powerful. On my late evening walk with my dog (10 mos. 100lb Chocolate Lab) it provides a great light source for you and your dog and it gets everyone attention! It worked so well, I attached a second light and taped them together (keep from falling off the collar, my dog is pretty active). Now my dog has headlights! He lights up anything in front of him! In fact, he gotten so use to it, he uses it to search for things in the dark! I highly recommend it.You'll be the talk and envy of your neighborhood and you and your dog will be safe at night!

The PupLight is a great product. I have a black dog and it makes him visible and also makes the paths he chooses visible.
