5.0 out of 5 stars A Puppy Snack Book Unlike Any Other...., October 12, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PupSnacks (Paperback)
When I was a kid in the 60's, they came out with the Betty Crocker Cookbook for kids. It wasn't a cookbook that taught kids how to cook, but rather a cookbook that had the most amazing recipes for children's parties like clown cupcakes, a Maypole cake, a heart cake, and even a soldier cake. LOL These seem so standard now, but once upon a time these recipes rocked the world of birthday parties for children.

"Pupsnacks" reminded me of that first unique Betty Crocker book because it takes dog snacks COMPLETELY to another level! It is AWESOME. There are about 35 glossy and amazing recipes to make for your dog, as well as short sections on the basics of canine nutrition and dogs on a special diet, etc.

Some of the yummy treats include: Catty-cakes (cupcakes with tasty peanut butter and banana and a cute cat decorated on top); turkey and cheese muffins; apple and cinnamon lollipops; liver bait fudge; fruity furrballs and more.

The pictures are TERRIFIC and feature the cutest pictures of dogs as they wait for a particular treat. I would venture to say that the pictures are the BEST of ANY dog cookbook (and I actually have a few). Heck - I'll go out on a limb....this is the BEST dog cookbook that I've ever seen. Plus the recipes are really, really great. (Not your standard ho-hum type.)

If your dog has been good - a great gift for Christmas. Plus - with all the scare of pet products, not a bad idea to cook for your pet!

4.0 out of 5 stars My go to Book!, May 24, 2009
This review is from: PupSnacks (Paperback)
This is a very good Cook book! I have several Dog Cookbooks, but this is my go to book. Any dog party I go too I am asked to make the Catty Cakes! My three Yorkies sit and wait by the oven waiting for them to come out of the oven. The ingredients are mostly organic gluten free, the only down side of the book is the measurements are in ounces instead or the regular cup format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Variety of dog food & snacks, August 28, 2009
This review is from: PupSnacks (Paperback)
There are a variety of snacks/treats that your dog will love. I have made a few for my dog and she can not get enough of them. There are also recipes for main dishes. This is a well rounded book offering a little bit of everything for the dogs in your family! Highly recommend this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy to have found this book, July 27, 2009

After looking around for a decent dog treat cookbook, I eventually settled on this one. I really like it! The recipes are, for the most part, easy to follow and my dogs just love the results. The treats are healthy and nutritious and the presentation is nice. Full color pictures and helpful hints can be found on almost every page! Most recipes call for wheat- and gluten-free flour but if your dog isn't sensitive to wheat or gluten, you can just use regular all-purpose flour like I do. Most other ingredients are easy to find or are already in your kitchen
The only reason this book didn't get the full 5 stars is the measurements given in this book are often given in weight, rather than volume. Just to use an example, the Chicken and Tarragon Bone Biscuits call for 8 oz of flour, 2 oz of wheat germ and 4 fl oz olive oil, among other things. I found it a bit off-putting to have to weigh ingredients rather than scoop with a measuring cup, but if you can get over that small inconvenience, it is really a wonderful book!
I would recommend.

While I am having a bit of difficulty finding the type of flour called for, I love the recipes and plan to use them soon. Especially the "pupcicles" -- it gets hot in Texas and my hounds will LOVE them!

The dog on the cover of PupSnacks look so much like our dog, I had to buy it.
Our dog loves snacks, treats and food, so this book is great. It has many recipes that are good for dogs and healthy.
Our dog is enjoying the treats my husband and I are making for him and his doggy friends.
