Let the Puppet making begin!,
This review is from: Puppet Planet: The Most Amazing Puppet-Making Book in the Universe (Paperback)
John Kennedy has really out done himsef with this book. There is an overwhelming wealth of ideas and techniques included. Not to mention step-by-step detailed instructions and colorful photos to walk you through it. This book would be great for a budding puppeteer, teacher,or anyone interested in arts and crafts. Of all the puppet books I have viewed, this one would be in my top 5 to recommend.

Like most of the people looking up this book, and books like it, I have been a Muppet fan for as long as I can remember. The idea of making puppets has been an interest for almost as long. Now that I have my own children this is as good a time as any and this book is a great place to start.
I bought this book, Puppetmania (also by John Kennedy), and the Foam Book and would suggest all of them to beginning (and maybe even seasoned) puppet makers. Between the three books very little information is repeated and all of it is informative. This book, specifically, not only covers hand puppets but some rather fun projects that can be done with the kids, including the spoon frog and the shoebox monster. So, if you are a parent looking for puppet projects to do with the kids, an amateur looking to get started, or a puppet vet looking to for something different then it is well worth checking this book out.

I bought this book for my husband. He is the local fire Chief in our town. He wanted to make a dragon puppet for fire prevention week to help teach the children about fire. He got many good ideas from this book. The dragon looks great so far!

Another helpful book if you want variety when making puppets. These patterns can easily be adapted to personalize your group. I like the fact that you can use different materials to create your puppet. Thanks alot!

While Christmas shopping for my too-smart-for-her-own-good-bored-easily 8 year old daughter, I thought of getting her a few puppets and then, I happened upon this book. Even better than buying puppets would be to let her make her own! This book is perfect. The ideas are great and feasible to make. She's made one puppet already & had a ball doing it. I highly recommend this book!

This is a great starting place to learn about puppet making.
There are good clear instructions. I like the step by step method with great pictures. There are extra ideas for each pattern, such as makeing a "person" and "animal" with the same pattern. I liked the few short tips on how to make the puppet express emotions. I would have liked to have seen a few more of those. There are actual patterns in the back of the book to enlarge which is great. I am giving five stars but there were a couple of negatives for me. Too many "childrens" patterns, made out of shoeboxes, plastic milk jug and the such. But this might be a plus for someone else. All in all it is an excellent book more than worth the money and shipping I paid for it. Good Job John Kennedy!

This book is worth its cover price just for the pattern for the foamman puppet which allows you to cut two foam rubber puppet heads economically out of one block of foam. I've used this design with great results. With dozens of other great ideas, it's a real bargain and a great starting point for your own creativity. It's a great companion to Kennedy's other book Puppet Mania.

This book is well illustrated and has some cute puppets, but they are not really what I would call "professional" puppets. The puppets look nice, and could be entertaining for children, but they are not the quality of "real" muppets. If you are looking for instruction for that type of project this is not the book for you.
