Puppetland has an important place in the evolution of role-playing games, not least because of its very early adoption of an all-semantic, diceless resolution system. Puppetland has an important place in the evolution of role-playing games, not least because of its very early adoption of an all-semantic, diceless resolution system. It's fast to play - every game takes exactly an hour, in fact. The rules insist! It's easy to learn, with just three rules that aren't the sentences on the character sheets. It's compelling to play and to GM, as your innocent puppets are ground beneath the wheel of the brutal setting. And it comes with Power Kill on the B-side, just in case you were interested in playing a meta-role-playing game with a heavy-handed commentary on the pathological nature of the fantasies that power traditional RPGs. It's been fun every time I've run it, maybe two dozen times by now, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
