Design limited, head size important,

This harness seems sturdy and serves its function well, but a design limitation that you should consider before buying it is that the neck portion is fixed in size and cannot be adjusted or snapped on. According to the specs on the manufacturer's Korean Puppia web site, a medium corresponds to a 13" neck; and I found that the medium harness indeed fits snugly and well for our dog who weighs 20 lbs and has a 12-13 inch neck. The problem comes when you try to put the harness on. Unless your dog has a smaller head than neck, good luck trying to thread your dog's head through the "eye of the needle".

I purchased this Puppia harness for my Boston Terrier who likes to pull while walking on the leash. The harness does not stop the pulling, but at least it put an end to the embarrassing choking noises. My dog does not mind wearing the harness, as it is very soft and comfortable. To top it off, I think it is quite stylish. I am completely happy with my purchase. I would recommend this harness to others who have a small dog.

Great harness for small dogs!,

I have tried several different harnesses on my two Bichons. Either they wear out quickly or don't stand up to being washed, or both. The Puppia harness is durable, does not choke, easy to put on and take off and my dogs are perfectly happy to keep it on for a few hours if needed. They do not try to chew it like they have some others.I highly recommend this harness.

Excellent harness BUT beware of the size charts,

This is a very well made, comfortable harness. Both my small dogs wear this Puppia model (in different sizes) and they have worked out very well, even as car safety harnesses. However: BEWARE OF THE SIZE CHARTS -- what the chart calls "neck size" is the actual size of the opening. This is the same opening through which the head must pass. Basically, you need to measure the dog's head diameter and look THAT up in the chart's "neck size" column to choose the right harness size.

Do yourself and your dog a favor and start using these great harnesses. Our little Yorkie had a ruptured disc that the Vet discovered it was caused by the use of a neck collar and he recommended we use these soft harnesses for him. We have 3 little dogs and they all use these now. Once you get the hang of it they go on easily, they are very comfortable and the dogs have plenty of freedom for movement. Think of how your neck and spine would suffer if YOU were pulled around by your neck everyday, these harnesses put pressure around the chest and not the neck when pulled.

Good Idea, Slightly Flawed,
By Susie Jones "Susie" (San Diego, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Authentic Puppia Soft Dog Harness, Red - Medium (Misc.)
I had seen and admired the Puppia harness at dog beach and dog park. It was not available through my usual pet supply sources, so I was pleased to find it on Amazon (of course!) I followed the sizing guidelines for my pekingese and ordered a large. It was a little loose at first fitting, and then quickly stretched to unuseable. I like the product, so reordered in medium. Unhappily, while the body was a much better fit, the non-adjustable head opening just didn't work on a broad-headed, wriggling teenaged peke. With just a little more research on Amazon I found the "Puppy One" harness which has an adjustable head opening -- same basic design, same comfortable fabric, just a slightly "tweaked" design to make life easier!

I bought these for our ancient chihuahua mixes. They both have weakened tracheas and any pulling from a collar tends to send them into coughing fits. So, this product seemed ideal with it's soft edges around the neck. For the first few weeks they were great - comfortable for the pups and a breeze to snap on and off. However, last week one of the snaps broke. This week the other harness snap broke. I hate to re-order as it seems likely to be a common defect throughout the line (I'm pretty sure that in this rare case, I am not the problem as I've lived three+ decades without having snap issues). The harnesses really worked well initially, so I may try to jerry-rig something with sewing on stronger snaps or working out a button or something like that.

I have one before. They last forever. The price is a lot better here at Amazon. Most important it is comfortable for your dog. A helpful hint. The sizing chart go by the neck of the dog. For instance my dogs collar is only 12 in so I got the medium. She also weights 12 lbs if that helps anyone else trying to figure whether to go with small or med.

I purchased this harness for my my 17 pound Jack Russell Terrier and it is perfect (I also bought the matching leads, which are great too.) He'd choke himself on walks with just his collar and this way, we can take long walks and when he chases after a squirrel or something else, he doesn't hurt himself. It is pretty easy to put on and take off and I think it actually offers some measure of security for the dog too. We've washed it in the washing machine a couple times and it seems no worse, so that's awesome. As a side note, we recently adopted two new Jack Russells and bought two more larges (pink and blue) and the large is a bit too big for them (9 months, 12 pounds) but I think they'll grow into them. Honestly, this is the best harness that I (or several other people who have see our dogs in them) have found...well worth the $.

Tip: If you can find these somewhere to try on your dog, would be best. And let the dog walk on leash with it on. The neck band slips over the dog's head so they have to get used to that. The harness is quite soft and flexible. It isn't a tissue thin item, however. It is made to be sturdy and distribute pull pressure over dog's front areas. I have two major problems with this harness: First is that the neck band is so much wider than the rest of the harness. This distributes the pull in that area, but as a result it takes up a bit too much neck space - riding like a too-high turtle neck. On my Papillon, anyway. Because it is so soft and flexible, my Papillon has gotten her leg thru the neck band on occasion, especially if I leave it on all day. if I'd gotten a smaller size, then the neck band would've been too tight. Second: The snap lock works well, but ends up down behind her front leg, especially when the harness slips sideways as she moves around on leash. The plastic parts of the lock are rounded and smooth, but it is quite large and I don't think it can be comfortable having it near her bony, little elbow when she walks. She accepts having it on, but doesn't seem comfortable in it. I am still using it, but will be looking for something that works better for me. I do think this would be a particularly good harness style for teacup and stubby-legged little dogs whose necks aren't too short. |
