Book Description

January 14, 2002
Based on the traditional format of books for human infants, Puppy Love: Baby's Memory Book is a fun and simple way to celebrate the arrival of a new "best friend" in the family, to chronicle the new "baby's" life or to memorialize an ongoing relationship with a special "friend of fur."

The easy-to-use pages provide both a structured format that guides the user through the process of organizing memories and memorabilia and the flexibility that lets them add their own special touches to personalize each page.

For those who may be overwhelmed by the decisions of where and how to start the process of commemorating a special life, each page offers a framework that includes suggestions, ideas and topics to preserve relationship memories.

There are pages that provide continuity throughout baby's life, from "The Day you Came Home" to "My, How you've Grown"; pages that record specific information, such as "Your Medical History" and "Your Paw Print"; and pages that encourage whimsy, such as "What Makes you Happy" and "If I Could Read your Mind." The user can relax and let his or her creative juices flow!

From the Author

Most of us either love pets and treat them as beloved children, or know someone who "babies" a special animal. Sherrye Pendarvis Annand falls into both categories. A few years ago she lost a wonderful Tabby friend to a mysterious illness. As she was gathering and sorting photos and memorabilia to honor this cherished life, she remembered the baby books her sister had put together for her own daughter and sons and wished she had something like that to remember her "little girl." The idea took hold and she grew to believe there were others who would love a way to chronicle the lives of their furry kids.

Reactions to her books, she says, tend to mirror the tastes of the general population. People who love and pamper their pets invariably say, "What a cute idea. . .of course my 'baby' deserves a book, too." Those who don't understand the connection some people have with animals tend to get a slightly dazed look at the mention of a baby book for pets, but almost always think of someone they know who is a pet lover and say, "But I've got to get one of these for. . ."

As she's talked with people at bazaars and pet and gift shows, she's been reminded that adoptive "parents" of cats and dogs are very eager to let others know about the new arrival in their homes, that they want to give parties to celebrate the new arrival and that they want to celebrate their "children's" milestones (over 23,000,000 cats and dogs in this country have their birthdays celebrated!). So she's added birth announcements, shower invitations and birthday party invitations as supplements to her books.

Sherrye Pendarvis Annand, M.A., (sherrye@petbabybooks.com) is a writer and university instructor whose special connection with animals has kept her centered while she tries to decide what she'll be when she grows up!

After receiving an MA in journalism, she spent the first part of her working life as a newspaper reporter, editor, advertising copywriter and public relations specialist. In her thirties a personal life crisis took her back to school for an MA in counseling which led to 15 years in private practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor. A couple of years ago she decided to combine the skills accumulated from two careers and started her own business, Nightwind Publishing, as a way to write and publish books that interested her. Her "baby's" death provided the impetus to begin and the perfect first works for her new company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift for friend with pet, April 15, 2003

This review is from: Puppy Love: Baby's Memory Book (Spiral-bound)
This is a sweet book. A perfect gift for a dear friend who has a new pet. It gives those "parents" without children an opportunity to create a memory book memorializing their beloved pet.

I wish I had seen this when my last dog was young. it would have been fun to reflect back on the great times we had.
