Book Description

7 and upPet Patrol
"Have a lost pet? We'll find it! Have a lonely pet? We'll mind it! Have a hungry pet? We'll feed it!" When Evie and Megan start their new business, they're sure they'll have a terrific response. Then someone leaves four puppies on Evie's doorstep, and they prove to be a real handful.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Evie and Megan mark the beginning of their new business--and the start of the Pet Patrol series--with a balloon launch. A note attached to each balloon reads: "Have a lost pet? . . . we'll find it! Have a lonely pet? . . . we'll mind it! . . . Have a hungry pet? . . . we'll feed it! The Pet Patrol? . . . you'll need it!" The girls' first client asks them to find homes for four puppies; the Pet Patrol succeeds with patience and resourcefulness, and the entrepreneurs are off and running. Animal lovers in particular won't want to miss this animated tale, given added pizzazz by its heroines' ingenuity, persistence and sincerity. The dynamics between the two girls add another enjoyable dimension: Evie is imaginative and optimistic, while Megan is pragmatic and detail-minded. Their personality differences make for lively, humorous dialogue while lending credibility to Duffey's novel. Illustrations not seen by PW. Ages 7-11.

From School Library Journal

Grade 2-4-- An easy-reading adventure in which two youngsters embark on a business venture together. Evie and Megan dub themselves the ``Pet Patrol,'' and set out to do anything anyone needs in caring for their pets. They launch ten balloons with their advertisement attached, and go home to wait for a response. Amazingly enough, as soon as they return from their launch, they find their first assignment waiting on Evie's front porch--a box containing four puppies that need a good home. They succeed, and all ends happily. The story moves quickly, and the characters are likable. Unfortunately, some of the plot elements are a little too far-fetched. Also, balloon launches are frowned upon environmentally, and the idea of children giving out their addresses and phone numbers to strangers may not go over well. Because of these flaws, the book should be considered an additional purchase. --Carol Kolb Phillips, The Library, East Brunswick, NJ

3.0 out of 5 stars Puppy Love, August 7, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Puppy Love (Pet Patrol) (Mass Market Paperback)
I gave this book three stars because I liked how the author's characters were so real. I felt like I was there hearing their problems, solutions, opinions, and ideas. The story is about Evie and Megan who started a pet business. They are given the job of finding homes for four amusing, attractive and lovable puppies! You will have to read the bone, I mean book, to find the solution. I hope you wag your tail like I did when I read this book!
