Coffee for Life,

makes an excellent cup of coffee with eye opening aroma and better yet profits from this fair-trade company are invested in an orphanage in the community where the beans are grown. So drink a whole pot.

I have been drinking this coffee for about a year now, it's the only coffee I buy. Rich, yet mellow flavor, never bitter. In addition, the coffee is Fair Trade Certified, Certified Organically Grown, and also grown in the shade. Try it and you'll buy it!

I was really looking forward to tasting this coffee. I generally buy a costa rican blend, but it was unavailable when I ordered this. The Pura Vida is Ok for everyday drinking, but, it's not great. I guess I've been spoiled.

I really wanted to like this coffee. The owners are doing a great thing with supporting charities with all the proceeds. The fact that the coffee is fair trade and organic are both just icing on the cake, but nice pluses as well... Unfortunately, the smell, taste and balance all leave a lot to be desired. The beans are in no way over-roasted like Starbucks and others, but they do not display much character either. I also found freshness lacking as well. That is not to imply the beans were rancid or anything so terrible... just not fresh. Anyone who has had truly fresh roasted coffee knows what a fresh bean's characteristics are, and you won't find it here (or at least not in my batch). All in all, I would say that this roast is very average... If you are OK with that and would like organic coffee that you know is roasted by people who do great things with the proceeds, then order away... you could buy much worse, and from people who don't give to charity at all. That said, if taste is your primary purchasing driver, I think you may want to look elsewhere for your coffee fix. Just as a tip, the best organic blends I have found so far are from a place called Urth Cafe (I have no association with them except being a happy customer). While Pura Vida wont be getting any more of my business, I thank them for being so generous with their profits... nice to know folks like their owners exist in this world. 3 stars for the coffee, 5 for the ownership.
