I have been growing my hair out for the last 2-3 years, which means extra care. Now I have long, wavy hair, and lots of it, which can make it hard to keep it healthy and strong, especially in below-freezing temperatures.

I have tried several brands of argan oil to help me keep the length and ends nourished and fight frizz in high-humidity, and though I am willing to spend a bit for a good product, I found that most of them were not worth the price: the hair was just oily, but didn't really seem nourished. There were no flyaways, but I also had to shampoo more often, which tends to dry out strands - so i was reaching the opposite effect from the one I was shooting for. Also, several brands (including the over-hyped, overpriced one with the blue lable, you know the one) have an unpleasant sticky texture and have added fragrance, which I don't like because I have a sensitivity to synthetic fragrance.

When I came across Pura D'or, I was pleased to find a product that was organic, with no fillers or additives, and I was intrigued by the fact that it claimed it could be used on face and body, as well. So I tried it, and I wasn't disappointed.

First, I tried some on my hands. And wow, my hands, dry from the cold, became really soft and stayed that way for days. That gave me the courage to try it on my face. Again, WOW. I have combination skin, so I am leery of oils, but a few drops of Pura D'or on my face 3 times a week seem to have done something to rebalance my skin so it is now more even in texture. I have tried countless products on my face, and I have only had this result with a product from the Perricone MD line, a product that I love but I cannot afford to use on a regular basis. This? I can afford and will keep using it, especially in winter!

Verified Purchase
I originally got hooked on argan oil by trying Josie Maran's formula and I loved the way it made my skin feel...but it was way too expensive to justify the continued use. I read a review on here to try this product and I'm so glad I did.

First, the concept of putting oil on your face made me cringe, but all the testimonials seemed like it could be a good thing. I'm in my mid-thirties, but people continually think I'm in my twenties. This product moisturizes and hydrates your face, but will not clog your pores. In fact, when I get a zit, this seems to make it go away faster...no multiple days of zits and piling zit creams on at night to hope that they are lessened the next day. This stuff really helps. AND my pores are minimalized along with the lines around my eyes and bags under my eyes being almost non-existant.

Secondly, what I love about this specific product is that it is cheaper than other brands AND it comes with a pump. Josie's comes with a dropper - which is hardly effective in getting a consistent amount on your hands to smooth on your skin. To me, that makes this product something I never want to be without.

I will be the first to admit I usually do not spend a lot of money on personal skin care and hair products. If I do need to purchase something special, such as a facial moisturizer or deep conditioner for my hair, I generally peruse my coupon stash and then try and find something competitively priced that I have a coupon for. In the absence of a coupon I will find a comparable store brand product and take my purchase home to use.

Thus, being given the opportunity to try Pura d'Or Argan Oil is a bit of a luxury for me. I am the girl who wears no makeup; the depth of my skincare routine is applying Oil of Olay to my face and Eucerin to my dry, cracked skin only when I feel it is needed. Using a beauty product (especially one that is an oil treatment) that costs more than $10 is "high class", and after using this product for nearly 2 full weeks I can say with 100% honesty that you do get what you pay for.

Packaging

Pura d'Or Argan Oil (shipped to you within a bubble envelope inside of a sturdy box) is packaged within a glass bottle with a plastic dispenser tip and a cover to placed over the top when finished. In this instance I tried the 4 fl. oz. (118 mL) bottle. Due to the aforementioned careful packaging, there was no damage to the bottle. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the bottle arrives inside of a small, linen drawstring bag. Personally, having to pull the bottle out of a bag each time that I wish to use the product was a bit annoying so I repurposed the bag for some other knick-knacks.

The bottle itself is brown glass and feels durable. The shiny gold label on the bottle clearly indicates the product name, uses, and prominently indicates that the product is USDA organic and cruelty free.

I was raised to always take care of my skin; but as I've gotten older, I've become a bit more zealous in keeping it hydrated and healthy. At the same time, I'm also more conscientious now about using more natural products. I'll admit to being a bit skeptical at first when I began hearing all the talk of argan oil. Certainly as a younger woman, I'd avoided putting any "oil" on my face for fear of breakouts; but even at my age now, old habits die hard, and I was a bit reluctant to start. Finally decided to try it, though. At first, I just pumped several drops to try out on neck and the backs of my hands after drying off after a shower. Then I started putting it on areas of my face that have never broken out (do I sound like a scaredy-cat, or what?). All still good. This argan oil glides on silkily, not slippery or greasy like some oils. When I first apply the oil, there is a definite oil sheen to my skin. Worried me the first time...but it just absorbs in a couple of minutes and I'm left with soft, protected skin. My biggest surprise was that it seems to maybe have a bit of a healing property to it. I have normal skin that can get a bit dry during the indoor-heat of winter; but, while I am definitely well past the age of regular skin breakouts, every few months or so, I end up with a small blemish on my nose or chin (the only areas of my face that ever tend to be oily). I was really leery of putting the argan oil on these areas. I mean, really, just asking for trouble, right? But, after reading a couple of reviewers say that it cleared up blemishes for them, I tried it on a small blemish that had popped up on the side of my nose. I had been dabbing a Q-tip with an alcohol-based drier on the blemish to make it go away which had the nasty side-effect of making the skin around the blemish dry and flaky.Read more ›
