From the Manufacturer

The XL brushes are our most popular and widely used series. Highly recommended for both interior and exterior painting projects. The stiffness retention of XL brushes (from the polyester content) makes them especially suited for outside painting under hot and humid climate conditions. Only DuPont's finest solid, round, tapered (SRT) Tynex® nylon and Orel® polyester filaments are used and our special tipping and flagging process brings our synthetic filaments as close to naturally flagged bristle as possible. Each XL brush style has its own unique hand-chiseled formulation for maximum paint lift and smooth no-drag application.

I have several of these and I think they are quite good. They really lay on the paint very well. You get even coverage and a sharp cut line. This is after years of use and abuse. Clean them up with a wire brush and wrap them in newspaper they'll be just as sharp next time you need them. You won't wear this brush out. It will probably get lost first. Don't buy a cheapie. Buy a good one and take care of it. It may be the last one you ever have to buy.

I'm a house-painter, and this is the only brand of brush that I'll use. If taken care of properly, a Purdy brush will last a life time.

The angle on this brush lets you get into smaller nooks and crannies with ease, and makes cutting fast and effortless (with practice). This is an excellent all-around brush to have.

Just can't beat the Purdy brand... might spend a bit more... performs very well and lasts longer! A greater value than most less expensive brushes... especially considering the quality of the work it allows.

The angle on this brush is perfect for getting good lines on smaller projects and getting in those tight spaces. An excellent brush to have.

Purdy brushes are the best. With care, they will last years. Spend a little more, and you won't need to keep replacing those cheap brushes.

EDIT: After 5 years or so of history with Purdy, please allow a few more comments:
I now buy only Purdy... no more lower level brushes for "rough stuff" unless I'm slapping paint onto a barn as fast as I can go, without regard for the texture.

Purdy has raised my standards in painting and now when I feel the need for a new brush (which isn't that often, by the way, even though I have so many wooden surfaces inside and out that I paint constantly) I just retire the old brush to lower quality jobs and still try to take care of it as best I can. One note though, primers like Kilz take the spring out of the bristles and are really hard on a good brush, so save your old brushes for that. Your 5-year old Purdy brush can still make your primer dead smooth, so don't ruin things with a cheap brush even on the primer.

The Purdy brushes will give a good painter a glass-like finish even with latex, so I look back at some of my old work with disgust, because I didn't use the Purdys and that work is not up to my new Purdy standard.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Purdys are for the finest of jobs because the brush is always perfect... no loose bristles, perfect cut for a flawless finish. They last longer of course, but that's because when you pay the price for a perfect brush, you take better care of it... I'd never take a break and leave the brush laying there with wet paint on it like I would a cheaper brush... too much to lose! But if you're serious about painting, this brush deserves a respected place in your shop.

Ask any professional painter, all they use are Purdy products. I was ignorant about the differences between a dollar store paintbrush and a $10-15 one until I used one of my son's Purdys. The way these hold the paint, deliver the paint and can accurately edge is quite amazing. They do last a very long time if they are taken care of. I am sold. Anytime I see them on sale at Amazon I always pick up a few.

I own this brush and several other Purdy paint brushes. While they tend to be more expensive brushes, they are worth it. They produce the best results in all of my projects. The bristles do not fall out like the "home depot premium brand" does. They always deliver a smooth finish with minimum brush marks. Purdy makes brushes for several different projects and paint applications. The angle on their brushes are supurb. I don't even mask when I paint now. Purdy is also Made in USA. They are actually made in a factory acrossed from my work here in Portland, Oregon. So not only is it a great product but it is made in usa. Take good care of your purdy brushes, they will last a long time if you clean them well, dry them and also store them in the covers they come with. These protect the brushes from bending the bristles and dry out. You will probably never use any other paint brushes once you use a Purdy.
