5.0 out of 5 stars Classic punk rock from an ignored group, December 4, 2000
By Martin (Sussex, England) - See all my reviews
It is sad that only in their native Britain can bands like 3 Colours Red be successful. This album, with its flashes of punk and heavy metal (lead singer Pete Vuckovic is a fanatical AC/DC fan) mixed with a subtle sprinkling of Britpop, no doubt due to them being signed to Creation in the UK. Nuclear Holiday, Sixty Mile Smile and Pure all shook the UK charts, and imho the title track is the standout with it's singalong chorus and chugging guitar riff. Nuclear Holiday, Sunny In England and Mental Blocks I would place in the same bracket. The tempo slows a little for some of the later tracks, including the power ballad Fit Boy + Faint Girl (which has intruiging but nonsensical lyrics), and the poppy Love's Cradle, but things finish with the ferocious 2 minute blast of Aniseed, not unlike the way Age Of Madness closed out Revolt. If you like vintage punk rather than some of the braindeads currently choking the scene (Limp Bizkit, Blink 182) this will impress

4.0 out of 5 stars Hit and Miss, but well worth a look, October 5, 1998
There are a few songs on this CD that don't quite hit the mark, but they are more than made up for by the songs that do. 'This is my Hollywood', 'Nerve Gas' and 'Nuclear Holiday' rock amazingly hard, so the fact is that the other songs are all quite good, but are put in the shade by half a dozen absolute stormers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent but good (4.2 stars), January 8, 2001
This album (3CR's debut) is mostly medium-fast tempo melodic hard rock, bordering on heavy metal. Many of the songs are quite good, such as the fast-paced title song, the stylistically similar "Nuclear Holiday", the intricate-yet-aggressive "Halfway Up The Downs", & the melodic "Sixty Mile Smile", while others are uninteresting, such as the simplistic "Mental Blocks" & the dull attempts at pop-oriented singles "Copper Girl" & "Fit Boy & Faint Girl". The band's 2nd album has better, more intricate songwriting (the melodies on this album are at times overly simple) & significantly more variety among the songs than this album does. If you like 3CR, you might also like Diamond Head's album "Death & Progress" (bassist/singer Pete Vuckovic from 3CR is the bassist on that album also.)
