Very Promising Band!!, February 26, 2003
This review is from: Pure As The Blood Covered Snow (Audio CD)
This is a great disc folks! Killer black/death metal with some of the best vocals you'll hear. This dude can switch back and forth between death and black vocals and back again in the same sentence with effortless ease and it sounds terrific! This is 25 minutes of extreme metal by a band that is definitely one to look out for! My favorite cut here is "A Cruel Verse", but all five songs (including a cover of Black Sabbath's "After Forever") are excellent material. This is one that all metalheads should be picking up!

Okay, this is great..i dont know how else to say it, i love this EP. The only problem is that its too short, but then i think even a full length would seem to short. This is black metal mixed with death metal, combining the best of both worlds. While there is some very nice keyboard work, the band doesnt let this overwhelm the rest of the music [thank goodness] rather they make you pay more attention, listening to the wonderful melodies flying by in the background. Drums are AMAZING, more double bass than you can imagine propelling the music alone at a fast pace, only slowing down occasionally to let you enjoy the keyboard melodies.
Vocally this is a monster, Azahel can sing any type of metal vocals. He was the vocalist in Possession prior to his involvement in FLA and as great as he was in that band, his work on this EP totally blows the older stuff away. He can shift effortlessly between deep deathmetal growls to high pitched ear bleeding blackmetal shrieks to sinister sounding whispers.
Production is good, though not great, nor slick sounding..depending on how you like your black metal this could either be a good or a bad thing...personally i prefer my blackmetal / deathmetal to have a harsher, not so pretty and slick sound so i have no problem with the production.
If you like american black metal or death metal you HAVE to check this out.
