4.0 out of 5 stars Very Promising Band!!
This is a great disc folks! Killer black/death metal with some of the best vocals you'll hear. This dude can switch back and forth between death and black vocals and back again in the same sentence with effortless ease and it sounds terrific! This is 25 minutes of extreme metal by a band that is definitely one to look out for! My favorite cut here is "A Cruel Verse",...

What a waste for a band with such potential to be putting out the wrong message. Christianity has NO PLACE in Black/Death metal, it's oxymoronic to say the least.

This is 25 minutes of extreme metal by a band that is definitely one to look out for! My favorite cut here is "A Cruel Verse", but all five songs (including a cover of Black Sabbath's "After Forever") are excellent material. This is one that all metalheads should be picking up!

5.0 out of 5 stars buy this cd..do it..cause i said so., February 25, 2003
This review is from: Pure As The Blood Covered Snow (Audio CD)
Okay, this is great..i dont know how else to say it, i love this EP. The only problem is that its too short, but then i think even a full length would seem to short. This is black metal mixed with death metal, combining the best of both worlds. While there is some very nice keyboard work, the band doesnt let this overwhelm the rest of the music [thank goodness] rather they make you pay more attention, listening to the wonderful melodies flying by in the background. Drums are AMAZING, more double bass than you can imagine propelling the music alone at a fast pace, only slowing down occasionally to let you enjoy the keyboard melodies.

Vocally this is a monster, Azahel can sing any type of metal vocals. He was the vocalist in Possession prior to his involvement in FLA and as great as he was in that band, his work on this EP totally blows the older stuff away. He can shift effortlessly between deep deathmetal growls to high pitched ear bleeding blackmetal shrieks to sinister sounding whispers.

Production is good, though not great, nor slick sounding..depending on how you like your black metal this could either be a good or a bad thing...personally i prefer my blackmetal / deathmetal to have a harsher, not so pretty and slick sound so i have no problem with the production.

If you like american black metal or death metal you HAVE to check this out.

Favorite song: A Cruel Verse

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Metal at it's finest!, November 22, 2003

Dark Metal has never been so sweet, and to say that Christians don't belong there shows your ignorance towards them. The Christian music scene not only holds claim to the greatest darkmetal band in existence, Frost Like Ashes, it also holds claim to fame for have the heaviest band, Vomitorial Corpulence, so would you like to repeat that? If you're curious of their sound, well download Adoers of Blood, and that should be proof enough for you to buy the whole thing. Keep and eye out for their full lenght CD this year. It should be sweet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un-black, October 18, 2004

Just wow. Definatly a 5 star Christian un-black metal band. Very fast, very talented, awesome vocals. The only problem with this EP is that whoever did the mixing, was a moron. At times the drums are too loud and the guitars are too bassy, but that is because whoever mixed it is a dumbass. Other than that, definatly buy this one. I can't wait until they come out with their first full length cd, maybe they will find a better recording studio by then.

5.0 out of 5 stars More talent than any secular black metal band. Buy this disc!, February 24, 2008
This review is from: Pure As The Blood Covered Snow (Audio CD)
Ignore the naysayers. They just want everybody to be the same and follow their silly, baseless ideologies. They're just a bunch of close-minded conformists. Frost Like Ashes devastates their clique-ish bands and stomps all over their bankrupt philosophies. Pure as the Blood Covered Snow is a masterpiece of battle music in the holy war against all notions of insanity. Glory to Jesus Christ the Lord of Darkness!!!!!!!

If you are a true extreme metal fan, you will enjoy this music even if you don't like the message! Heavy as gravity!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Watch for this band in the future, June 29, 2006
This review is from: Pure As The Blood Covered Snow (Audio CD)
FLA is one of the most talented bands out there. I love the way they combine elements of Black metal (their primary focus) and Death metal. Sebat is an excellent guitarist and Azahel can belt out the most beautiful yet disturbing vocals at whim. The best track on here is Adorers of Blood, although A Cruel Verse comes pretty close. Adonijah is also one of the best drummers out there as well. Hopefully, the upcoming release (Tophet) will live up to this excellent debut. As far as the band goes, I give them 5 stars. I gave the album 4 stars because the production wasn't great. The drums were loud in some songs and soft in some songs providing the inconsistent production. But the band is definitely a 5-star band. Pick this album up.

4.0 out of 5 stars An unbiased review, May 1, 2005
This review is from: Pure As The Blood Covered Snow (Audio CD)
Christian Metal is an often over looked musical genre. Many talented bands are ignored for the simple fact they don't uphold the status quo Satanic stance that is all too prevalent in Metal today. This leaves only Christians to review these releases which, unfortunatly, is an obvious conflict of interest. So, for the intents and purposes of this review I will attempt to put aside all convictions, ill or otherwise, and judge solely on the musical talent displayed by the band.

Frost Like Ashes is a band that excels at the fusion of death and black metal combined with the testosterone driven riffs that characterize the early American thrash movement. The vocals range from a deeper kvlt black metal roar to a sort of Dani Filth-esque screech. The riffs encompass influences from Testament and Metallica to Darkthrone and Bathory to Death and Entombed. Rythm section is precise and hard hitting. Lyrically, it shows that they are christian though its nothing too prominent. The lyrics are fairly unintelligle and you definetely don't have to pay attention if you don't want.

Overall, this isn't one of the best albums I've ever heard but it's far from the worst. If you're inclined toward black metal, or unblack metal, whatever you choose to call it, you'll probably enjoy this release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing heavy metal, April 2, 2005
This review is from: Pure As The Blood Covered Snow (Audio CD)
The entire band is amazing. The icy guitar melodies are blistering and beautiful. The usage of double bass druming is incredible. The one that stands out most, however, is the vocalist. The vocals are brutal. He was known as Nyk with Possession but changed his name to Azahel for the new band. There is a reason for this. He sounds like a completly different vocalist. He does not do the same voices he did with Possession. The screaming falsettos are not there anymore. This was perhaps the biggest dissapointment for me, having been a long time fan of Possession prior to hearing this album. Nevertheless, on this album he does some amazing things with his voice that I have never heard anyone come close to doing. The black metal vocals he does are unmatched. Carcass influences can be heard at times, but for the most part, Azahel creates his own techniques. Despite the lack of falsettos, he sings two of the highest notes I have ever heard him sing in the song "A Cruel Verse". One of them is similar to a wolf howl, and the other he holds for about 20 seconds and then does this bizzarre cricket sound with it.
This album is a feat of heavy metal. I would highly recommend it.
