Think about The Freshmen or The Hi Los and what they represent to serious work on vocalization in a group format for American music. Ok?

Now if you look for something similar in Brazilian music or Bossa Nova, the group is Os Cariocas, a spectacular group that has survived the present days, maintaining its incredible top quality.

The repertoire is 1,000 stars and all originals by Os Cariocas, all great standards of Bossa Nova.

This is a compilation of their work for Philips Records (Universal label today), a must-have album as well as all Os Cariocas' material.

Question: Who was the first to vocally perform the infamous "A Garota de Ipanema?"
Answer: Os Cariocas!

Jobim and de Moraes peformed it at a club in Rio on August 12, 1962. With them were Octavio Bailly, Milton Banana, Joao Gilberto and the masters of vocalese de Brazil.The rest, as they say, is history since Jobim and gilberto took it to NY to record an album for Verve that became a blockbuster..and they took along Joao's wife Astrud because she spoke some English!

It is fun to think that it was really inspired by a specific female and that a group sung it first!

Love this cd, and this version, as it likely is the way it sounded at that first live performance. It will be almost like owning a piece of history!

This group is amazing. I enjoy their music enormously, and this compilation did not disappoint. This is the perfect place to start for this group. Os Cariocas have a vast repertoire, and after listening to them on Pandora and Youtube, I was highly pleased with the selections listed. I will admit, I may be a little biased because I love bossa nova and Os Cariocas extensively; however, this compilation is truly a good place to start for not only Os Cariocas, but bossa nova in general.
On an even better note, the cd came to me fast and free of any imperfections. Great job amazon!

Combine the Hi-Los and Freshmen, change the language a tad, 'n you've got it -- and to think these cuts were 40+ years old?

I'd've changed the tempo on possibly a couple cuts... but that's me.

Fun -- and I'm buying an extra copy for the vocal professor at our local college as a gift - - - he loved Quarteto Em Cy.......................
