This CD has, in a very short time, become one of my favorite Latin, Afro-Cuban jazz albums. A full orchestra of exemplary Latin musicians play intricate, but very clean, versions of old and new Latin jazz. In a way, it's comparable to what Don Byron did for early, '20s jazz on "Bug Music". The scores are well-thought out, and the music is not too brassy and overly dense, as some recorded Latin music can be. Rhythmic throughout - you can see this as being an inspiration for the music being played now by the likes of Pancho Sanchez, Arturo Sandoval and Pacquito d'Rivera, to name only a few. No wonder it received a Grammy nomination upon its release. Terrific!
