Concerns of critical import are largely absent from this movie-star bio. Although Shapiro allows--a little bit--that ditzy blond star Hawn's divorce from Bill Hudson had its unkind repercussions and that she endured other travails, he is no scandalmonger. He provides a confectionery life story: entertaining, informative, essentially harmless. The things it implies are, by and large, mere bagatelles, not monumental misdeeds. Shapiro's Goldie is a likable, perky actress trying to succeed without selling her soul. In making the transition from Laugh-In go-go dancer to bankable actor and occasional producer and director, Hawn has endured the Hollywood experience and lived to tell about it. But is she the latter-day Carole Lombard (who could be?) or Doris Day? Does that kind of question matter anymore? Mike Tribby

I've always thought of Goldie as the cute, ditzy go-go- dancer of "Laugh-in" days and wondered about her background, her romances, her children and especially why she never married Kurt Russell. This book answered my questions...There is certainly more "meat" to her than on her bones...
