Excellent compact Humidifer,
By
This review is from: Pure Guardian H1000 TableTop Humidifier (Health and Beauty)
I first saw the Germ Guardian H1000 on the desktop of a co-worker. I searched the web for it and found the best price at Amazon. I originally bought it for work, but set it up on my nightstand to test it out and liked so much it never made it to the office. (I may have to get a second one for work.) It's compact size and efficiency are real selling points. I even used it in a recent production I was in, taking it to and from the theater every night. Most of the other performers in the cast wanted to know all about it and were also impressed. I highly-recommend it.

Tiny, Tiny, Tiny but useful,

This is a tiny humidifier! I bought it for my son as he suffers from bloody noses at night. We live in Arizona and it is very dry. We have the full size Germ Guardian on our side of the house and we like it but I thought the lights would bother the boys at night. So we ordered this. It puts out a small amount of steam and only lasts about 12 hours in our very dry house. But it seems to be enough for my boys. The unit does get warm and doesn't turn itself off when empty. It has a light inside which makes the unit glow a very pretty blue which is a great night light.

Does not change Humidity - as other reviewers have stated,
This review is from: Pure Guardian H1000 TableTop Humidifier (Health and Beauty)
I was very disappointed with this product. Initially, it appeared to be exactly what I was looking for. A small, attractive, filterless humidifier for a baby nursery that had natural antimicrobial properties.
Prior to purchasing, I read a number of online reviews. Like most products, there were mixed results, but overall the impressions seemed positive. I had read a review by Paul here who claimed that the product didn't work. I assumed his review was hyperbole. Turns out Paul was right. It just plain doesn't work. We ran this humidifier in our baby's nursery for 16 hours straight (refilling so the tank was never empty). In 16 hours, the humidity went from 33% to 34% !?!? It just plain doesn't work. Now, I should also state some obvious stuff. We used the product in what should have been an appropriate environment. The room is very small 9'x9' and the door was closed to eliminate loss of humidity. Also, my experience can not be explained away as a single faulty unit. I had ordered two (another for the master bedroom), so we retested with a second model with identical results. Both produced a visible mist immediately above the unit, so they were 'working'. This product has great features in theory. I was excited by the nano silver technology which in theory should make for a clean and low maintenance experience. I returned this product and purchased a well known brand. While it didn't have all the flashy features of this Germ Guardian, it just plain works. I installed it 10 minutes ago and the room humidity has climbed more than 5%. Bottom line. This product doesn't work. If you plan to purchase it despite these warnings, make sure you keep your receipt for the return.

I've been using the Germ Guardian H1000 in a small bedroom (approx 150 sf). It doesn't really seem to work! I've measured the humidify before and after and it really doesn't seem to change significantly. It's small, quiet and cute but what's supposed to be most important is how well it works. And it doesn't.

Nano technology and health issues,
By Momo (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pure Guardian H1000 TableTop Humidifier (Health and Beauty)
I was first very impressed by the reviews I read and liked that this humidifier is so small.
However, it is surprising to me that no one has mentioned the missing research yet when it comes to the nano particles that not only clean the air this humidifier blows out but also may be a health concern! "A 2005 study in Environmental Science & Technology showed that zinc oxide nanoparticles were toxic to human lung cells in lab tests even at low concentrations. Other studies have shown that tiny silver particles (15 nanometers) killed liver and brain cells from rats. "They are more chemically reactive and more bioactive," Illuminato says, because of their size, which allows them to easily penetrate organs and cells. "Products should be at least labeled so consumers can choose whether they want to be part of this experiment."" [...]. There is not a lot of information out there for consumers to really understand the possible impact of nano particles in the air (and in food and clothes), and in the meantime, this technology is being used like x-rays in shoe stores at the turn of the century! As much as I wanted to like this humidifer, I also don't want to be part of a study in 10 years....good luck to everyone else!

Great desktop humidifier,

My office is really dry thanks to the terrible AC system, so everyone has been buying humidifiers to use in their cubicles. While the other girls at work got the Crane Hello Kitty one (which is HUGE and very pink) I decided I wanted a smaller and less obvious one for my desk, so I ordered this one. After using it for a few days I love it, and now my coworkers are all jealous of my small, effective humidifier. I plan on buying another one for my home desk now.
Pros: -Small size- takes up very little space on a desk, easy to move around -Large output of cool air for its size -Quiet- about the same noise level as our Dell computers -Easy to refill (especially compared to larger ones) -No filters needed -Lasts about 8 hours (perfect for my workday!) Cons: -There is a low blue light in this that can't be turned off. At work I can't even see it because I'm surrounded by fluorescent lights, but it might bother some people (although some might like it as a nightlight) -There is only one setting for this humidifier. This doesn't concern me because I enjoy the amount of air it puts out, but I can see how other people would like more options If you want a humidifier for your desk, or a similar small, this is the perfect one to get- but if you're looking for something to humidify an entire room, you might want something bigger.

Efficient, long life, TABLE TOP humidifier (not for an entire room).,

I love my Germ Guardian. I had it for nearly three years before it stopped working. Turns out, you're not supposed to put essential oils in it. I'd recently (within 6 mos) started putting essential oils in it. Bad idea. This will kill your Germ Guardian.
I get horribly dry skin (eczema), eyes (contacts), and hair in the winter, as well as nosebleeds. The Germ Guardian improved all of these conditions. Just use your common sense when purchasing this- this is a table top humidifier. It's good to humidify the area around the table top, it will not humidify the entire room, it will not change the humidity in the air. However, if you've got it on a night stand next to your bed, you'll definitely notice the great results. Even when I got my tonsils out this past year, I directed my Germ Guardian at my face each and every night as close as I could and it just kept my throat moisturized which totally sped up and eased the healing process. The blue light is nice, but yes, it is very bright. As someone who loved sleeping in pitch darkness, it took a while for me to get used to it, but I did. Now that my Germ Guardian is gone, my room is too dark! It does last the full 8 hours, sometimes even longer. My only complaint is that after a few months it began to have a loud start up. This would last for maybe 10 mins, but then it would quiet down to its normal, barely audible hum. Not a deal breaker for me, but it is the reason it got only 4 stars. Like I said, this will not humidify an entire room, but if it's right next to you on a desk, or right next to the head of your bed or baby's crib, you will notice the physical results. Just to note: I purchased this item through Amazon, but for the people who've had defective items, perhaps pay attention to the Amazon Seller who sold it you. You have to wonder how many different places it was shipped to before it got to you and what affect this could have on the product if it wasn't sold directly by Germ Guardian. FURTHERMORE, and this is an IMPORTANT NOTE, everyone- Germ Guardian has a limited 3 year warranty on this product, you can go directly to their website to see for yourself and to register the warranty. Most warranties are barely one year, so Germ Guardian seems to be confident with their product, and from my experience with it, they've got reason to be. I recommend registering your Germ Guardian as soon as you get it, and for those of you who are hesitant after reading about the defective/used/short lived ones, as long as you register for the warranty and understand the terms of the warranty, you should have no problem getting a good one.

Very disappointing. The humidifier is so small and gives off such little water that I had to put it next to my bed on the bedside table. It lights up the entire room wiht the blue glow so that I have to sleep with eye pads on in order to not stay awake all night. I don't need a pitch black room, but if I can read a book by the light of my humidifier, it's too bright! I would return it but I threw away the packaging, now I'm just annoyed.

This works great in my son's nursery. (It is a small room.) The product creates a subtle background noise, and it prduces a soft glow, which both help my son sleep. It is VERY EASY to clean, and it doesn't require filters. I've bought/returned several humidifiers, but this one is staying!

Love this product so far -- it's small and perfect for a nightstand. It doesn't leak and it's easy to fill up in the bathroom sink. It really is whisper quiet. The blue glow bothered me at first, but now I'm used to it.
