5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic by one of Norway's Greatest Black Metal Bands, January 22, 2008
This review is from: Pure Holocaust (Audio CD)
Blizzardous Blast Beats from the barren, cold winter lands of Norway. Howling malevolence from the 6 string tornado. Screams of a demon warning of the Unsilent storms found in the Abyss that is the Nordlands. Non satanic beliefs, but so evil and gruesome sounding you couldnt tell. Immortal is one the sickest black metal bands Norway has ever offered. And the album that made them Gods of True Kvlt Black Metal... Pure Holocaust.

Pure Holocaust is about winter storms. It is about the Frozen waste lands of the North. It is about cold, evil, pure black metal. This album is Purely a Holocaust of Metal. The Barrage of continous noises that never lets up makes for a truely grim classic in the genre of Black Metal. Abbath has never sounded so wicked before, singing with some of the coolest vocals I have ever heard in a band. The hellblasting drumming is phenomonal, and suprisingly enough it was all done by Abbath and Demonaz Doom Occulta. Erik is credited for drumming and even in the sick band photo on the cover, however he committed suicide before doing almost anything on the album.

The intro song, "Unsilent Storms in the North Abyss" is the perfect way to start any album. Its Fast as hell, its evil and its amazing. The album continues to be pure madness all the way through, with the next song being one of my favorite, "A Sign for the Norse hordes To Ride". Wicked hellhammers and guitar shredding makes a non stop barrage of missles pounding your ears. In my opinion though the Greatest song on this album would have to be "Storming Through Red Clouds and Holocaustwinds". Its title is perfect because the song is a... well a storm through red clouds and holocaustwinds. Its like youre getting pounded in every direction by an all out blast of insane madness. If thats not the greatest song on the album then "Pure Holocaust" could easily be. A Slow intro only prolongs youre doomed souls death when the song kicks in. Its a storm of madness. Its purely psychotic. Its a pure holocaust.

All around this is a perfect album. It NEVER, for one second, gets boring and its a classic in Black Metal. A Must-own for any black metal fan or even metal fan because they need to see what real metal sounds like. 10 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars pure hell on earth, April 22, 2009
This review is from: Pure Holocaust (Audio CD)
if you don't know about Immortal by this time, you have either been living on an island for the past 20 years or simply are not a fan of black metal. Pure Holocaust is just that...pure hellish metal torment. One of the fastest black metal records ever recorded by one of the fastest bands of the genre. Not much diversity here as on their later albums, but most fiends will agree, all of their albums are worthy.

Great, heavy, grim, frost covered Black Metal. Nice music, cool lyrics, just a great classic album.
