I have read the first 3 Instinct series books with Jessica Coran, M.E. I have been "riveted" to my seat in all of the books thus far. Pure Instinct didn't seem as good to me because there were so many "side stories" involved as well. The introduction of Dr Kim Desinor was the main story as far as I was concerned. The "Heart" killer in New Orleans was the main story. But as it turned out, Jessica's closure with Matt Mattisak was really the main event. I was a bit confused with this book but I still enjoyed it. The back & forth between Jessica & Kim got me dizzy & I had to go back a few pages at times. I've rated it 3 stars because Richard Walters' Instinct Series is riveting and his character's backgrounds & life experiences makes me want to meet them. This was the only book at this time that I haven't "DEVOURED" in a day. It took me 2-3 days to finish. Bottome line: it is still a good story in all!

Walker's Jessica Coran keeps the pages turning!,
This review is from: Pure Instinct (Paperback)
I don't know what book the last reviewer read, but it definitely could not have been Walker's Pure Instinct. Obviously, he/she had never read any of Walker's previous Coran thrillers. Jessica Coran has been face to face and a victim of a slasher and a blood-letting, blood-saving vampire. How that is "ordinary" is beyond my comprehension, but maybe I haven't been living in the same world as some of the rest of us.

"Instinct" Series A Hit!,

This review is from: Pure Instinct (Instinct thriller series) (Kindle Edition)
Robert W. Walker's "Instinct" series are the best serial killer books on the market. I read them years ago and was thrilled when I saw them on Kindle. I downloaded all of them and am having such a great time rereading all of Jessica Coran's adventures in capturing the bad guys. These books are so interesting and are real page turners, trust me you won't be able to put them down.

Creepy!,

This review is from: Pure Instinct (Paperback)
Two twisted killers for the price of one! Walker has a real knack for creating some pretty sick and twisted killers, and this book is a prime example. The suspense builds up well and the action is well paced. The addition of Dr. Desinor, who has such a different outlook from Jessica, adds an interesting layer to the story. This is one of those 'lock the doors and hide under the covers because this is going to creep you out' kind of book.

Frightening? No - beyond frightening. Once you begin, you won't be able to stop. Captivating, thrilling and exciting. But not for bedtime reading.

The first 3 books in this series I could not put down. This one very confusing with too many story lines competing with one another. I'm just glad I finally finished and can move onto the next one. Also there were many, many typos.

Sorry folks...,
This review is from: Pure Instinct (Paperback)
This was the first of his books that I have read and what a disappointment. Having read another one (thought I'd give him another chance), this is how I see it. Jessica is one of those plucky Nancy Drew-types (tough, gung-ho, too trusting/not trusting enough, self-deprecating, always at odds with one of her bosses) who HAS to do battle with the WORST, MOST heinous villain EVER (Mad Matthew Matisak, puh-leeese!). It's just all too "breathtaking" for me.She starts out wanting to get out the FBI's "protective" custody (Mad Matthew has vowed to drink her blood!) so she steamrolls her boss into letting her go to New Orleans to work on finding the Queen of Hearts killer (the author eventually has about 4 or 5 names for the killer). At the same time, she'll be drawing out MMM. There are enough red herrings in the plot to populate a fish market, and every one is sooo obvious. There are incredible coincidences and leaps and one or two really confusing aspects to the plot. Not too mention an FBI psychic who tags along...and you will thank me for not mentioning that part of the story. Finally, the love relationship aspect of the story is introduced and then given short shrift (thank God because he has no clue how to write from a woman's perspective or a man's!). I finished this book only because I'd invested [an amount of money] and a couple of night's reading. I've struck Mr. Walker off my reading list. |
