5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Instinct: Sounds of an era of Scorpions creativity
"Pure Instinct" is the Scorpions best album of music since "Love at First Sting" was released in 1984. The album is strong in that it is full of songs that sound like different times in their twenty-five year career. 3.0 out of 5 stars Hardly any sting!
Let us look at this album as a Scorpion album that can be appreciated purely for it's creative appeal, and not for the sting that makes Scorpions the scorpions they were. Fine, Wild Child may be a great opening song, but can it hope to match the sting delivered by Blackout, which in my regard, is probably as good as an opening track ever. Ok, forget Blackout, we can...

"Pure Instinct" is the Scorpions best album of music since "Love at First Sting" was released in 1984. The album is strong in that it is full of songs that sound like different times in their twenty-five year career. Songs like "Where the River Flows" and "Time Will Call Your Name" have a flavor of the Uli Roth/Michael Schenker era. Songs like "Wild Child" and "Girl I want to be with You" have a flavor of their 1980's sound. While songs like "Does Anyone Know" and "Stone Inside my Shoe" exhibit their ability to establish new boundaries in their creativity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really GREAT album, July 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Pure Instinct (Audio CD)
I would say this is probably the Scorpions best studio album. The Song Wild Child is the best song in there. "But the best for you" is another great song. Does anyone know is more soft and emotional, so is "When you came into my life". You and I is the 2nd best song in that album. If you are a Scorpions fan, starting fan or long time fan, you should get this album.

Ok, forget Blackout, we can blame, the changing time for the lack of enough sting. How about Tease Me, Please Me, a 90's masterpiece, that stands out as yet another opening scorcher. Play it, and you'd wanna play it again.
Musically, yes, Pure instinct can be described as a definite attempt towards goodie soft rock, but that's just not what the Scorpions are made up of. I mean, just listen to ' Soul behind the face', it's a nice song, but does it deliver the intensity that say 'you give me all i need' does, with it's shifting melodies.
I must say I was pretty impressed with the album till I heard it in isolation of their previous efforts, such as 1st Sting, Blackout, Crazy World and even Face the Heat. But it's criminal to do that.
If you are a Scorpions fan, buy the album, because it still is musically appealing and appreciative. But, this is not a typical Scorpions album, if you know what I mean. Probably the only song that gets you anywhere close to the gems of the past is 'You and I, without doubt. That too, comes right at the end, when youre probably snoozing instead of fisting the air.

THis is the best Scorpions album of them all, and I have them all. Yes better than 'blackout' and 'love at first sting'. There is not a bad song in the lot. I can not listen to this enough, sure there are a couple ballads, but name a Scorpions album that does not have one. If you consider yourself a Scorpions fan, or even a hard rock lover, get this now. The best songs on the Cd are: Wild Child, But The Best For You,Stone In My Shoe,Soul Behind The Face, Oh Girl (I Wanna Be With You),You And I......THIS IS A MUST FOR EVERYONES HARD ROCK COLLECTION!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sit back and be prepared..., February 18, 2006
This review is from: Pure Instinct (Audio CD)
Wow! This collection of songs "Are you the one," "Soul behind the face," and "When you came into my life" will have you reflecting on past memories and posibilities of the future.
In my opinion these songs are classic. They have the ability to take you on an emotional roller ride... way better than any C/W song. More people should consider using "When you came into my life" as a wedding song choice. I love most everything the Scorpions have put out, but this is, by far, my favorite C/D!!!! If you have any sentimental strings this collection will touch your heart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mellow but good, August 12, 2003
By
This review is from: Pure Instinct (Audio CD)
After putting out a dozen or so metal albums, the Scorpions seemed to mellow out with this one. I kept waiting for it to rock out, but it just doesn't (well, a little at times, but not like a regular Scorpions album). That said, the songs are GOOD. It's not burdened by a bunch of lame ballads like Aerosmith's 90's work. And it's still the Scorpions - they don't try to jump on the bandwagon of the "current" popular sound of the time, which is good for those of us who hated grunge and "Alternative"! There's a nice variety of feels, with some nice acoustic and keyboard work - reminiscent of some of their earlier songs like "Is There Anyone There" off LOVEDRIVE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best retro album in comparison to some other bands, April 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Pure Instinct (Audio CD)
Megadeth did good retro with return to hangar, but some of the other retro Megadeth is not so great. I can honestly listen to scorpions Pure Instinct right along with In Trance and feel there is a sameness there. The rest of the album is nothing like eye to eye, or face the heat or crazy world or savage, sting, blackout, love drive, magnet, killer, force, fly, crow. just listen to those two, trance and instinct. We don't need any more sting; I personally think hurricane is one of their worst songs.
