3.0 out of 5 stars lanolin
Convenient 2 oz container for "pure" lanolin. However, I was disappointed to discover that "pure" lanolin does not spread easily, tends to "cake up" and flake off. A lanolin blend seems to be more effective for my derm issues.

I love this stuff.

I've been trying to reduce the quantity of chemicals in my life (read your lotion bottle ingredients list sometime, even the so-called natural ones), yet still want a hand lotion of some sort. Then I recalled when I was young and raising sheep, how wonderfully soft my hands would feel after handling the sheep, from the lanolin in their wool. I searched a bit and settled on this pure lanolin product from New Zealand from Australian sheep (no idea why they didn't use NZ sheep, they do have a few there). Anyhow, it comes in a set of 4 2 ounce jars. I'm on about my 6th jar, so have 'tested' it out thoroughly.

Initially, it's a bit odd to use as the lanolin is a bit thick and waxy--like an oily wax. But it is _not_ oily or greasy. Scoop out a tiny bit and rub it into your hands, or feet, thoroughly. Within a minute or so your hands don't feel like you have anything on them yet feel very soft. There is a great progressive effect with continued use--dry/dead skin patches, like on the feet, are now soft and feel moisturized. It lasts a long time, even through hand-washing, so I'm using far less than I did of normal hand lotions.

This lanolin does have a slight smell. It's not flowery like artificial scented products, but also doesn't smell like sheep or such. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's inoffensive and goes away quickly.

I use this lanolin daily on my hands, about weekly on my feet, and sometimes on my face. It agrees with my skin, which tends toward breakouts, and causes no problems. Seems to decrease wrinkles around the eyes, but I haven't used it long enough that way to be sure about that.

The lanolin does melt if it is, for example, left in a hot car. So be wary of which way the jar has been sitting if you open it when it's warm. The stain on my upholstery isn't too noticeable, however. It does rub into the skin quite nicely when it's melty, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific replacement for Chapstick, March 16, 2010

Did you know that Chapstick contains an ingredient that makes your lips dry? This is to make you want to use more of their product. Just as bad as the tobacco companies. My husband's doctor told him not to use chapstick anymore.

Lanolin hydrous is white-looking, so it's unattractive. Instead, my husband fills empty Chapstick containers with this product by simply running the tube into the jar. Then he uses it as he would a regular chapstick, but IT DOESN'T MAKE HIS LIPS DRY!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure lanolin, just what I wanted, October 6, 2010

This is not a cream of lanolin and water, it's pure lanolin. It is thick and slowly soaks in, so you're not going to want to do much with your hands for a few minutes after you put it on. I take it on outdoor trips to keep my hands from getting too beat up and dried out.

Works very well on rough, dry skin. Also used it on my dog as she has dry, scabby skin.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite new discovery! A little goes a very long way., July 22, 2011

I have been using this lanolin for almost one month and it has been working beautifully. It even keeps my hands moisturized between washes. I opted for the pharmaceutical grade quality since I was worried about possible chemical contaminants which might cause my skin undue irritation or harm.

I have very sensitive, very dry and eczema prone skin and I have sensitivity to most cosmetic brands. I have therefore been relying primarily on pure unrefined shea butter to keep my skin moisturized however I was still not completely satisfied since I have to keep re-applying the shea butter throughout the day to keep my hands, especially my knuckles, properly moisturized.

I like my products to have multi-purposes uses so I have also been using it:
i) on my bikini and underarm areas (in conjunction with aloe vera gel & castor oil) after epilating to prevent/reduce ingrown hairs;
ii) as a night time facial cream (in conjunction with non-comedogenic neem seed oil & shea butter);
iii) as a lip balm to prevent dry chapped lips

CON:
It is a very sticky wax so a lanolin cream would probably be more suitable if you wish to use it over large areas of skin.

Product is excellent, no smell and better than any man-made moisturizer. I've seen some recent studies that note lanolin is as effective as steriod creams on some skin conditions like Psoriasis. For my family it cures the cracked dry winter skin literally overnight, hands, heels, fabulous!

5.0 out of 5 stars my mistake. I thought it was a normal face cream, November 7, 2009

I bought this for my aunt who always want lanolin face cream because her husband ever bought two pack(4 pots per pack) for her from New Zealand and it was so moistruring. But I forgot to ask her what color is this. After I bought this,I saw it is a bit dark yellow. It is like solid and not like normal face cream which is soft to be applied on face. Later, my aunt told me that it should be white and soft. If you expect this one to be the normal face cream that can be applied on your face, I have to say, please looking for the right one with keyword "Lanolin face cream".

I am very surprised to hear from the customer service after I rated 1 star. They nicely corrected my misunderstanding and told me "Lanolin cream" is the one that I was looking for and kindly offered me a try for the right one.

Therefore, I have to change my rating to 5 just for their service, otherwise it is unfair.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, smooth, more conveniet package than Lansinoh Lanolin, cheaper, November 29, 2011

I loved this product. We use it as a diaper ointment for our baby when we use disposables, and for lanolizing the wool covers we use for our cotton diapers. It's easy to apply compared to Lansinoh which you have to squeeze out of the tube. And works just as well. I need to add it does have a little sheep smell so for those who want it to be totally without any smell, don't buy it. But I actually love the mild smell and prefer to Lansinoh. It's cheaper, too. Very good product, thank you!

I use lanolin on my hands during winter to keep them from cracking. I have no doubt that this is high grade lanolin, and it certainly functions well. Furthermore, the container is just about the right size and configuration. For someone with arthritic fingers who sometimes finds himself in a cool environment, lanolin in a tube is a little inconvenient to dispense.

Call me finicky, but I prefer the nearly odorless Lansinoh or the generic equivalents that come in a tube and are targeted at breast-feeding mothers. On the other hand, the containers for this product are just about the right size and shape, so I anticipate refilling them with generic "lanolin cream" for breast-feeding mothers. (I will warm the lanolin cream before transferring it into these containers.)
