This review is from: Pure Praise (Perfect Paperback)
I first heard about Pure Praise, A Heart-Focused Bible Study on Worship from Rick Warren's weekly e-mail to pastors. I'm a minister at a university campus-focussed church and a member of the worship team. After reading Pure Praise, my depth of worship has dramatically increased. Moore has written a book that is extremely approachable and easy to relate to for young people, but also has a lot of meat for the more mature. He's written a good blend of material that focuses on the Lord, worshipers in the Bible, and practical advice for modern worshipers. He is respectful of denominational differences and recognizes that some forms of worship aren't as "popular" today. He encourages the reader to step out of their comfort zone and into a place of Pure Praise.

The way I read the book each morning was with my Bible program and a notebook (Word document) open. I recorded 17 pages of scriptures, Strong's Concordance references, quotes, and notes that I find myself referring to frequently. [I'm starting to write worship songs and have found a lot of song ideas in the themes of the book. The same would hold true for Word study topics, sermon topics, etc.]

The book is not meant to be read cover-to-cover in one sitting, but rather it drives you daily to the Word and to prayer.

Here is a brief rundown of the weekly topics:
Week One: Understanding Worship
Week Two: Understanding Praise
Week Three: The God We Worship
Week Four: Hearing God's Voice
Week Five: Five essentials of effective worship services
Week Six: Qualities of Leadership
Week Seven: Using Our Tools Wisely
Week Eight: 5 goals for lead worshipers
Week Nine: Five Keys to Finishing Well

I have now given my copy to our worship leader in hopes that our whole worship team might go through the study. If you've gotten this far in the review, I'd advise you to spend the few bucks to buy it. You'll find it is money well invested!

5.0 out of 5 stars Use at a very SMALL Church, August 7, 2009
This review is from: Pure Praise (Perfect Paperback)
I am Worship Leader/Music Director at a small rural church with a small praise band. We have attended a variety of conferences, both as a group and some individually.
This book was amazing for getting hearts focused on WHY we are members of a worship band - WHAT our task IS - and on how important that task is! It was very intense and VERY, VERY worthwhile. I have already gone back to parts of it a couple of times and it is a study that I feel I will be repeating every couple of years - there is a WEALTH of information, both head and heart, in there that I have yet to uncover fully!
I can't recommend this book/study highly enough.
If you can only get ONE this year - THIS is IT.

This book is a must have for any person that is on a praise team or who sings publicly. Our praise team is using the book as a group study. We are not even finished with it but it has already changed the way we praise and worship. Get the book and get ready, get ready, get ready. It will change your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great individual or group study, March 5, 2009
This review is from: Pure Praise (Perfect Paperback)
This is a great study for pastors, worship leaders, singers, musicians, or even members of the congregation. The author, Dwayne Moore, does a great job of leading us closer to the heart of God. It's not just about music and song choices, but learning to worship God with every fiber of your being.

The study is nine weeks, five lessons per week. Each lesson takes about 20 minutes, and is grounded in scripture and prayer. The study centers on the story of Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20.

My relationship with God has grown much stronger, and I've learned what it truly means to worship God.

I am now in the process of doing the entire book for a second time with my choir and worship team. We have all grown in the area of worship due to the writings of Dwayne Moore. I would encourage every worship pastor and team member to take advantage of the opportunity this book brings to your journey with the Lord.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Praise, Pure and Simple, November 3, 2009
This review is from: Pure Praise (Perfect Paperback)
I'm calling Pure Praise, pure and simple and that was the kind of study I needed. The daily sessions are brief so that you can focus on the idea of the day and let it sink in to you as you study. I also liked that the 9 weeks are based on studying the book 5 days a week. That way if you miss a day you can still keep pretty much on track.

I'm looking forward to Pure Praise 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars in Spirit and Truth, October 21, 2009

This review is from: Pure Praise (Perfect Paperback)
I so appreciate Pastor Dwayne's fresh, clean style, unencumbered by theological mumbling. He gets to the heart of the worshipper (us/me) by helping us to see the uncleaness of our hearts and how that is absolutely not acceptable to our holy God. The path he chooses is straight forward, and we get to the unfettered heart - free and released from the chains of our bondage to sin - full throttle to the truth of God's word, allowing the Holy Spirit to have His way as we discovery the fresh, pure relationship of worshipper to the only True God in Spirit and Truth! And I am thankful.

This study was a pivotal point for our entire praise team. We sat down as a team and worked this study every week before rehearsal. We all applied what we learned both personally and corporately. This was truly a study inspired by God.

5.0 out of 5 stars In a word...AWESOME!!!, September 3, 2009
This review is from: Pure Praise (Perfect Paperback)
If you are looking to take your worship arts ministry deeper, this is the book for you. I have been amazed at how God is using this devotional to work in the hearts of our team. Please do not hand it out and tell them to go do it, walk through it together. This devotional instructs and reveals through biblical teaching and application.

Don't miss this opportunity to connect to the hearts of your team members.
