4.0 out of 5 stars RJ Ruitinga, dutch glay fan
having heard heavy gauge, drive and pure soul, i definately recommend this album. a large variety of songs lingering between rock and ballads makes it a good listen. i love the song 3 years later (track before Im in Love) and also all the other songs are fantastic eventhough i dont understand the lyrics, the music is excellent even for the non-Japanese fan worthwile!

Super! Glay is a fantastic band I ever heard in my life. Although it's Japanese, I like it because it is just GOOD! By the way, I think this is the best rock band in Japan now.

5.0 out of 5 stars GLAY in Pursuit, September 16, 1999
By A Customer

This album from GLAY offers a more punk and hard-core version of their musik which is usually influenced by pop. I prefer this album because Teru's voice works well with the rock songs and "Yuuwaku" has to be the best song in the world (voted Best Song of 1998 in Japan). I enjoyed how each of the songs sounded different (although some had some strange titles "Fried Chicken and Beer").

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Soul ROCKS!!, June 30, 2003

All of GLAY albums are great!! But PURE SOUL has got to take the cake. Even if you don't understand Japanese, the music alone is hypnotizing and so pick-me-up-ish. My favourite song would have to be "You May Dream" or "Soul Love". In fact, all of the songs are my favourite. I'm really glad I own this album. Every track on this album is upbeat, some are a little slower, but it's an amazing album for anybody starting out in Jrock. Their newer works are a bit different than their earlier works, and Pure Soul was an album made just in the middle, music that's just right. DEFINITELY 2 THUMBS UP!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars PURE SOUL, December 9, 2000
This review is from: Pure Soul (Audio CD)
This album title song is a very heartfelt song of thanks. It's not a common love song, but it is a song that a young man who gets a success thanks to his mother. And this album including Hard Rock songs, too. Buy it!!

3.0 out of 5 stars pure efforts are hardly for the soul with this dark offering, August 1, 1999

The tracklist for those who cannot read Japanese font is as follows:

1. YOU MAY DREAM 2. Biribiri kurasshyumen 3. May Fair 4. SOUL LOVE 5. Deatte Shimatta Futari 6. pure soul 7. Yuuwaku 8. COME ON!! 9. FRIEDCHICKEN & BEER 10. 3 Nengo (San Nengo) 11. I'm in Love

This is perhaps GLAY's darkest album since the release of their 1st major album, SPEED POP, back in 1994. I sum it up best as a darker version of BELOVED, GLAY's last original album before pure soul. YOU MAY DREAM is a pop-sounding, fast track which is reminiscent of BELOVED's first track, GROOVY TOUR. But the mood is overwhelmingly dark for this white-covered album, in songs such as Deatte Shimatta Futari, pure soul, and San Nengo. Yuuwaku, Biri biri kurassshyumen, COME ON!!, and FRIED CHICKEN & BEER all reveal a hard edge rock flavor, but COME ON!! has an intimidating quality to it with Teru yelling his heart out at your ear, and FRIED CHICKEN & BEER carries a frightening sentiment which seems to mock the listener. The lightest melodies come from only 3 songs: I'm in Love, SOUL LOVE, and YOU MAY DREAM, but none of these songs can really make up for the moodiness of this album. Unlike GLAY's other albums which were lighter and offered more variety, pure soul is a dark offering, with songs that merely echo their classic hits, like Kuchibiru and Ikiteku Tsuyosa. Although packed with new GLAY songs, this album fails to surpass the quality of GLAY's older albums and original hit songs. I was disappointed with this album and it was the first time I was ever disappointed with any GLAY album.

I've been listening GLAY ever since 1998, and this album is the best ballad album by far, and probability one of my all time favourite J-Rock album. Strongly recommend "May Fair", "Pure Soul", and "I'm in Love".

This is Glay's best original album I think. YOU MAY DREAM happens to be my favorite Glay song! It has a variety of both rock songs and ballads. If you were going to buy an original album, this is the one to get!
