"what's going on is...Soul Power in the purest form", September 19, 2001
This review is from: Pure Soul Power (Audio CD)
The selections on this one CD issue is awesome, no other word can describe the lineup you're about to hear...usually something this thorough and complete is on an "anthology" or "box set", but here it is ~ "PURE SOUL POWER", the latest in a series of collections from Universal Music, topping the charts on "Billboard R&B", from the late '60s to the early '70s...all I can say is "WOW", this is a goldmine ready to be discovered.
Entire album is a "collectors dream", so many highlights include ~ "WHAT'S GOING ON" (Marvin Gaye), another classic nugget from his vast repertoire..."I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPVINE" (Gladys Knight & The Pips), one of my all-time favorites..."FIGHT THE POWER" (The Isley Brothers), can't sit still to this one, the beat grabs you..."WHAT IS HIP?" (Tower Of Power), just listen and you want to spend big bucks for your wardrobe...but no one, I mean no one gives more of himself than the "King of Soul", James Brown who leaves you with this message of "SOUL POWER"!
Total Time: 73:43 on 20 Tracks ~ UTV Records 314-556-328-2 ~ (2001)
