5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book in all it's awesomeness April 8, 2012
Format:Paperback
I love Jennifer's writing so much. She has an awesome style that pulls me right into the story, and makes me connect with her characters. Jennifer Armentrout is an awesome writer, and she is on my top ten favorite authors. You know, the ones that you'd read over and over even if they wrote the back of a cereal box! Yep. She's there. Why? Because she writes these characters that I wish were real and in my life, she weaves kick butt humor and sarcasm into the story, she has great ideas and she constantly surprises me.
In Pure, the action never stops, and Alex does more awesome things... including sweet fighting moves and throwing more stuff. One of my favorite things about this book is getting to know Seth more. I'm such a sucker for the bad boy especially when we see that underneath it all, there is a soft heart. I think that I am Team Aiden for Alex and Team Seth for me. If somehow I could have that connection of course.
I connected even more with Alex during this book--how could I resist with how powerful her emotions are and how great Jennifer is at writing them and making them feel so real. (There were moments where I busted out laughing--lots of these actually--others where I was growling in frustration, others where I wanted to just melt, and then the next second throw the book.) I love how she doesn't do anything half-way and how she stands up for herself. She doesn't just accept things at face value, and has qualities that I wish I had a bit more of. Okay, okay, a lot more of.
There are plenty of hot moments, and I wish that I could talk about them without spoiling them. But, have no fear they are there. Though it can change so fast, because one scene I seriously thought about ripping out the page. But I wouldn't do that because I love the book so much.
A wonderful example that I jotted down of why I love Jennifer's humor and writing: The are you Team Edward? No, I'm more Team James or Team Tyler's van, but by the looks of it, they don't win because she's still alive.
I mean, I love Twilight don't get me wrong, but I'm one of the fans that can laugh at it too, at an awesome comment like that. Especially since my husband has said something similar, if less eloquently,
I know what teams I mentioned earlier, but I have to say that Jennifer has the mark of brilliance that I can't definitively choose. Because I can see the appeal of both, and I've read what Alex feels about both Aiden and Seth. I just really hope that Alex makes a choice, and that Seth doesn't end up as a pitiful 2nd choice. But then I laugh at thinking that because I also know the type of character that Jennifer has written Seth as and I know that it won't come to that. Just holy cow at the chemistry. But, even if she probably won't end up with Seth, and I get that deep feeling that she won't, I know and understand that the series wouldn't be complete without fully exploring the relationship between the two Apollyons.
In summary, in case you can't tell, I loved this book in all it's awesomeness. I recommend getting your hands on it as soon as possible, and I really can't believe I waited so long to read it, and I can't wait for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic sequel! March 4, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Oh. My. Gods.

I thought "The Iron Knight" toyed with my emotions. Yeah. "Pure"? Let's just say I went from wanting to cry, to wanting to throw my ARC across the room, to smiling (both Aidan and Seth have their moments). But even though I wanted to smack a few characters - especially a certain boy - I absolutely loved "Pure".

With sequels, it's usually either hit or miss. Will the author deliver another fantastic story? Or will they fall short? This is one of those sequels that manages to hit every right note - in fact, as soon as I finished, I was more than ready to re-read the entire book. It really was that good.

Now onto my actual review:

(Note: I'm going to try and avoid any spoilers - seriously, there's a lot that happens in "Pure" and I do not want to ruin it for you.)

Love triangles can be frustrating, especially if they are the focal point of a story. In "Pure", there is a love triangle going on, yes, but it's not the main plot. In "Half-Blood", the first book in the Covenant series, Alex falls for Aiden, a pure blood. Romance between a pure and a half is forbidden. Alex knows this, and so does Aiden, but it doesn't stop them from feeling something for one another. In the first book there's a moment of "weakness" on Aiden's behalf where he almost gives into his desires to be with Alex, but when that moment is interrupted, he reminds himself that he cannot be with Alex. He's determined to make sure she understands that he won't allow her to lose everything for him. It's honestly one of the many reasons why I adored Aiden, but all of that changes in the second book. In "Pure", we get to see a different side to Alex, Aiden, and Seth. It's a nice change, but it also left me wanting to smack Aiden numerous times.

In the first book, while I found Seth to be amusing, I figured he would be trouble - that he was an arrogant jerk. And while he is arrogant, he isn't the jerk you may find him to be. When Aiden decides to stop training Alex, she ends up spending a lot more time with Seth, something he isn't too fond of at first. He follows her everywhere, insists on staying over, and always, somehow, finds a way to throw in an inappropriate comment - but when Alex loses someone close to her, its Seth - not Aiden - that steps in to comfort her. It's honestly that part of "Pure" that made me fall in love with Seth.

When Alex leaves to head to the council - Aiden and Seth joining her, along with her uncle and step father - Aiden maintains his distance from Alex, not wanting to draw attention to them. But he can only keep his distance so long. When someone sets out to harm Alex, Aiden and Seth have to work together to protect her, and you better believe there is tension between the two of them.

But the tension between the two boys is nothing compared to the final battle near the end of "Pure". When the Furies are unleashed after the daimon's break into the Covenant, set on destroying the council, it's an outright blood bath that will not end well. Alex will break one of the most important rules and if anyone ever finds out, it's not only her that'll pay.

Back to the romance: Alex's heart belongs to Aiden, but she's tied to Seth - whether she likes it or not. She is his other half, and he her's. She cannot change fate, and she's aware of that. When Alex makes her choice, it's easy to see that why she made the choice she did, but you also know that her decision isn't final - as proven by that bedroom scene. I honestly cannot wait to see where Jennifer takes the story next and what'll happen with Alex - will she follow fate or will she continue to seek out what her heart wants? Even if it could cost her everything?

Jennifer has delivered yet another wonderful action packed, romantic novel that'll leave readers eager for the next installment. Oh, and that pool scene that Jenn teased? Wait until you read the actual scene. Along with the scene in a certain person's room...the one that leads to a physical fight between the two boys. Seriously, both are ohmygods worthy moments.

A few of my favorite quotes from "Pure":

(Note: these were quoted from an ARC, words may vary in the final print.)

"Aw, did you just fall?"

"No." I rolled onto my back, wincing. "I attacked the floor."

----Taken from page 64.

"I love your bed." I rolled onto my stomach, smiling. "I love it so much I'd marry it if I could."

Seth laughed out loud. "You'd marry my bed?"

"Mmm."

----Taken from page 282.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books Ever!! March 5, 2012
Format:Paperback
This has to be the BEST BOOK EVER!! I LOVED this book!!! Jennifer has done it again, and its better than the first one! Pure had romance that made you root for Alex and made your body feel tingly inside waiting for that special thing to happen. Seth also surprises you with his funny charm and charisma that he opens up himself to Alex. I was so torn at which one I wanted Alex to be with. The Zoo scene, Pool scene left me like this O_O because my heart was pounding like crazy!! Jennifer's writing is the best addiction ever!! It was at a great pace, left me wanting more!

The surprises along the way had me in tears that I was grabbing tissues because it was unpredicted and unknowing due to the amount of love I have for this book. If I do cry in the book, it means that its a winning read. Armentrout will leave you wanting more of her writing because its addicting, you will fall back in love with every character except the Daimons. The process of what was happening was mind blowing!! The scenes with Alex, Aiden and Seth would leave me breathless, and the tension between Aiden and Seth was soo funny. Alex is still kicking butt, and is my favorite heroine. Aiden is one of those characters that you really want to get to know. Aiden is still forbidden unfortunately but you can still feel the tension between after what happened in Half-Blood. This love traingle is getting more interesting after getting to know more of Seth and Aiden. I still love Aiden, but Seth was growing on me.

This book has got to be my favorite of all Covenant books for the moment, and I think Deity will leave me the same way because knowing Jennifer Armentrout's novels, she will leave me with a cliffhanger. I am still suffering from JLA withdrawal!! If you havent read Half-Blood I recommend you buy it now because you dont know what you are missing. If you give me any of Jennifer's books I would be in happy land. Now I am excited to read Deity because that ending in Pure was like OMG I need the next one now!!

Now I will leave you with some of my fave quotes:

"Now, I brought us a movie to watch, the one that has sparkly vampires in it. I thought you'd
be down for that." (121 e-ARC)

"He stalled, silver eyes dropping to my shoulder. I could almost feel it in the air--the primal
jealousy, his raw urge to physically remove Seth's hand." (242 e-ARC)
