I was really excited about Pure. It has been a while since trick racing has been around. The first couple hours are a blast. I would have liked to see more options for customizing the quads. You do build them from the ground up, but there's just not enough different parts. Class D is where you begin. It's not that hard once you get the hang of the controls, to place...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure fun, September 22, 2008

I have mixed feeling about this game, but from an objective point of view it deserves 4 stars.

After playing for a day I grew frustrated with it. The first section of races was easy and I came in first for each race. The next section was much more difficult. I tried to be patient and stuck with it, but at this point I was not able to better than 5th in the first race. I was able to earn enough point to move to the next section where I easily came in first in a race.

All that aside, I kept going back to play. The game is fun even when you lose. The difficulty is unbalanced, but I know if I keep at it, I can win those races I lost.

THE GOOD: This game is fun. The controls are great. The graphics are outstanding.

THE BAD: No split screen multiplayer. Upgrading an ATV is a complicated and time-consuming mess.

In the old days if a game did not have split-screen multiplayer it was a deal breaker for me. But now so many companies are putting out games that don't have this option so I can no longer be so picky.

One other thing to note is the fact that the online leaderboard causes my Xbox 360 to crash. Other players have noticed this same issue so it isn't my setup. I'll forgive this because I'm assuming a patch will be out soon.

Got this game a few days ago and my boys - 6 years old, and 36 years old (that would be my hubby hehe) LOVE it. The graphics are pretty amazing and the music is really good. Several songs from GH so my 6 year old sings along to half of them and plays until his little hands are numb. GREAT game and worth every $$!

This game is good, the customization for the vehicles is GREAT! We all really enjoyed building different ATV's. It has awesome graphics and it is fun to play. But, the game itself does get repetitive. It is true that the difficulty level gets harder as you go along, but it is all repetitive and there will be times you feel almost as if you're just going around in circles doing the same thing over and over again. Overall this is a fun game to play with a group of friends. You just wouldn't want to invest too much time in it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Easy Game/Missing Split Screen, January 13, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Pure (Video Game)
I tried the downloadable demo for the XBox and found this game very easy to learn and a lot of fun. When it was released, I bought it for Christmas and have been playing it non-stop. The learning curve is quick but the freestyle offers enough challenges to keep you entertained for awhile. The on-line multiplayer is a lot of fun and offers some real competition after you beat the single player game. This game reminds me of CoolBoarders for PS2.

My only complaint is I expected a split screen multiplayer mode and there is none! I was completely shocked as a bunch of friends and I wanted to play it one night, and while entertaining to watch someone else play, no where near as much fun to play against someone else and joke with them after.

As far as long term play, I can't comment as I'm only had this game for a short while but any long term play is going to come on-line as you can't compete against friends. Time will tell on this.

All-in-all, I'm greatly impressed by this game (especially since it was made by Disney, another shocker). The graphics are just gorgeous and the views are spectacular. With the exception of the above complaint, highly recommend this game for all ages.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Quad racing games have never been a favorite of mine. From the constant jumps to the whining of the engine. What Pure does is almost make you feel as you are actually there. The graphics are amazing and that really add's to the excitement of the game. Pure makes itself challenging in that you are able to learn moves that can be a little complicated and amazing at the same time. The moves you are able to accomplish will help give you more boost power. The boost can help push you to finish first. Although the competition is not just going to push over. Many of the races you will find yourself fighting for a top finish. No matter how good you are the competition will always be there. Getting to know the tracks is probably the most important step since learning the jumps can help you win the race. Pure is an excellent game for those who love racing with a lot of action. The tricks and breath taking jumps help this game stand above the rest. I would recommend Pure for most lovers of racing.

I was really excited about Pure. It has been a while since trick racing has been around. The first couple hours are a blast. I would have liked to see more options for customizing the quads. You do build them from the ground up, but there's just not enough different parts. Class D is where you begin. It's not that hard once you get the hang of the controls, to place first in every race. Just make sure you stay on the trails, you do not get rewarded for improvising and tryng to take massive shortcuts. When you go where the game does'nt want you to go, it merely throws you off of your bike. There are some sneaky shortcuts, but these are too far and between.

Racing is a pain at times-Here's the three most frustrating:

1. Even if you place first in all the races, you will always start a race in last (you start every race at the back of the pack).

2. Whenever you use your turbo (in campaign mode) the computer uses his too. I find it funny that the computer always knows when your going to use your turbo and matches you exactly.

3. Taking the right routes on the track is a must. Even if it's your first time racing a track-if you take the wrong route, you better bet the computer knows the right one-(ex. you will be in first, and because you take the right fork instead of the left, you will be fourteent after the fork).

Freesty;e mode is however a Blast!-This is where you compete for points by doing massive tricks.

Hopefully they come up with updates or patches to fix these issues. Especially in later stages, it becomes nearly impossible to score in the top three, let alone win the race.

It does have some great music, and overall is not a bad game. The graphics are simply astonishing, you definitely feel the thrill when you hit the large jumps and do a special trick. It's not a bad game, it just could have been so much better.

Verdict: Rent it for the weekend.

4.0 out of 5 stars All the Fun of Racing, None of the Broken Bones, November 12, 2008

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I am not in the "X Games" demographic and I've never been on one of these ATV things.

However, I've never played professional football either, and that doesn't stop me from playing Madden.

"Pure" is an addictive and immersive game. The controls are simple, which is a good thing given how little time one has to react to the courses and the importance of employing trick moves and boosts at just the right time to eke out a victory.

The physics of the game are a major accomplishment. Most racing games feel flat and never really provide the illusion of immersion within the game. "Pure" just feels right. When going over a jump, I was very surprised to discover that I had full control of the vehicle and my avatar while airborne. Indeed, I screwed up many an early jump expecting to be on autopilot until landing.

The courses are excellent and challenging. The wipeouts are magnificent. The ability to customize your vehicle is well-executed, although I have many hours of playing left to figure out the nuances of one type versus another.

"Pure" is now my favorite racing game, quite an accomplishment given how much I enjoyed "Burnout: The Revenge". Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Four wheel extreme sports, October 18, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Pure (Video Game)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Only very few games have names that fully symbolize what they are. Pure is one of them. It is not adulterated, no un-necessary crap included. The game is extreme sports on four wheels. Your skill in pulling off tricks gets you the winner trophy.

As this game doesn't try to be a jack of all, either you will fall in love or may not bother about it. If you are one of those who loved games like Skate, older ATV games; dont miss this one. Try out the demo, it is a very good representation of the basic gameplay.

The game is very easy to pick up. But to be a true master and unlock every thing you need to practice a lot. The gameplay is very well balanced; you can't just be a one trick pony. There are three modes in the game, I like all of them. You need a different mind set to champion each style. My most favorite is freestyle. All you are doing is pulling of tricks for extra time. It is purely your skill, nothing else.

For me Graphics is not just polygon count. I would like to see good art work too. Art style and texture work is stellar. Probably this is the best looking racing game so far in this generation. As you jump higher and higher you can see a much wider area. They look awesome, it is like riding up a gondola looking down. Areas are very varied from lush forest to snow covered mountains. Very well done with lot of details. Iam not a big fan of the shiny bloom lighting, but it is there. It seems to be very common in new racing games.

Online works like a charm. Every mode is available online too. Don't approach this game as you do in Forza. Driving fast all the time wont help you much. Make sure to nail the tricks, build up your boost meter. It is a extreme sport game.

Another impressive feature is ATV customization. You can even build the entire ATV from scratch. Only complaint I have is, you can't use your own textures or custom paint. So all the ATV's either custom built or the ones from the game look the same. Customizing your ATV becomes very important at latter stages as the vanilla ATV wont cut it. More time you spend on this game, more you will fall in love with this.

Black Rock Studio has done so many iterations of ATV games in the past, Pure is a big fan service.

If anyone has ever played Downhill Domination for the PS2, which was an amazing game, this is the closest thing I've ever found to it. The sense of speed is really nice, the controls are simple, and it's just a blast to play. One big con is no splitscreen multiplayer, if I had friends I would really hate this. Also, the tracks just aren't varied enough. They're different, but they almost all feel like the same track with a different skin painted on. A pro, it goes well with whatever crappy music you listen to, using the xbox music player to mix your audio with the game audio. I like it with pop-punk. Overall, it's a fun game, but it gets stale quickly.
