Tis a bit on the raunchy side, but that's rock -n- roll I suppose. Catchy tunes but I do get a little tired of Laney's vocal tone. I prefer the Poodles and the like.

Lead guitarist for "Randy Piper's Animal", Chris Laney puts forward his solo career.,

This review is from: Pure (Audio CD)
This is the debut album from Swedish metal guitarist/songwriter/producer Chris Laney. Although clearly an unfamiliar name for most, quite a few have come across his musical talents one way or another as Chris Laney is the lead guitarist for American glam metal band "Randy Piper's Animal"; as well as having served as producer for doom metal band "Candlemass".
"Pure" his first album as a solo artist is very much in line with the sound of "R.P. Animal" coming very close to the style of their second album "Virus" fun oriented Glam metal that is. Apart from handling songwriting, production and of course all guitars, Laney is, perhaps not surprisingly, laying the lead vocals. For a glam metal release "Pure" demonstrates pretty heavy guitars (having almost become a trademark of Laney's) while the riffs and choruses are even catchier than those of "RP Animal". Namely "I dunno" has an undeniable radio quality to rock every listener, regardless of one's musical references. Of course "W.A.S.P."/"RP Animal" reminiscent song are included; "Fire & Ice", "Pissed at what ya missed" and "Make you cry" definitely carry the heritage. But perhaps more importantly the fact that makes "Pure" such a refreshing album is that Laney is by no means restricted by the W.A.S.P. song writing formula as the guitarist also comes up with generic glam metal songs such as "The Stranger in you" and "Get you down" which bring to mind American bands like "Hurricane" and "Queensryche". In his debut album Laney delivers a handful of "Pure" Glam metal tunes that easily stand up to the quality of "RP Animal" and "W.A.S.P."
