This UV sanitizer seems like such a great idea - I immediately used it on my remote controls, computer/laptop keyboards & other electronics around the house. I wipe those things off, but hesitate to use a moist spray disinfectant on them. Now maybe we all won't share the cold & flu this winter as in the last few years.

It is a little bulky, that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars...still a very good price compared to the one that flips open.

I bought one long ago at a very high price. The bulb eventually burned out and it seemed impossible to find a reasonably priced replacement UVC bulb.

Years later, this came back and was down to $14 in Pink.

First: The pink in not that 'pink' and if anyone is thinking about it looking like a woman's product ... don't worry, it looks reddish and you won't be using it in front of people.

GO BY PRICE: IF the Black or Pink is cheaper at the time you purchase this, buy the cheaper one and don't worry about the color.

NOW - This is just my personal opinion and why I LOVE THIS DEVICE! I have terrible allergies and if I use it on my bed pillows before I go to sleep, I swear (although it could be just psychological) there is a dramatic reduction in the itchy feeling from whatever dust mite/allergen that there may be.

When I don't use it, I seem to be swatting my face and scratching my eyes a lot and wake up much more congested.

PROBLEM: THE LIGHT IS DANGEROUS (UVC) AND I REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE CAP PUT IT UNDER/ON THE PILLOW AND TURN IT ON AND LEAVE THE ROOM FOR A FEW MINUTES.

I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH EXPOSURE I AM GETTING, BUT WORSE IS WHEN I SET IT UP AND FORGET ABOUT IT. IT STAYS ON UNTIL THE BATTERIES RUN OUT .... MEANING DEFINITELY NEED TO USE 4 RECHARABLE AA - BUT IT IS ALSO THE CAUSE OF MY BULBS ALWAYS BURNING OUT PREMATURELY.

I ALSO USE IT INFRONT OF MY WINDOW AIR CONDITIONER, LEAVING IT FOR A FEW MINUTES DURING ALLERGY SEASON (PROPPING IT UP SO THE LIGHT ENTERS THE VENT AREA WHERE THE COLD AIR COME OUT) AND IT SEEMS TO REDUCE ALLERGY PROBLEMS INDOOR.

I also sometimes put them inside my gym shoes to kill any sweat bacteria from a hard workout that might cause odor/stinky shoes.

Mostly neurotic uses, but I think to some degree, it has really been a major part of my allergy control program.

As for sterilizing, I assume it works, but without any way to known for sure, I prefer to use an alcohol swab to disinfect in public. They are super cheap, small and much easier than lugging this thing around. (the kind for medical needle swabs - 100 for like $1.99 in any pharmacy/drug store).

It was a little smaller than I expected, but overall it was easy to use and light enough to pack in my purse when I recently travelled. We used it on the plane, in the hotel room and in the rental car. Not one of us got sick this trip!! And I love the color =) The flashlight option came in handy a few times, too. Handy and lightweight.

I received the purifier today, but it doesn't work! I don't mean it doesn't kill germs... it literally will not turn on. Very cheaply made, battery compartment does not have a spring in it so all I could do was load the brand new batteries into the slots and slide the top on. I tried three different sets of brand new batteries but the item won't turn on. May be a defective device, but honestly if it really is this poorly made, I would not be surprised if a replacement does the same thing. Also, the "switch" doesn't have an indent between the three choices, so you basically have to move the plastic piece to "on" and hope you triggered the thing to turn on.

Future buyers: I would be wary of buying this product if I were you.

We bought this Item, because we know UV-C works. The Pocket Purifier works well, is compact & even has a little flashlight built-in. We also purchased another one for a family member. Thanks!

Love this tech! Got this the other day to perhaps sanitize a convector (heat and A/C) in my apartment.

A friend of mine is an expert in such things and tested it on my cell phone and sunglasses -- she found an amazing amount of bugs/bacteria on those items, and after using this for 30 seconds or so, most were gone.

She was unsure that any small unit could do too much, and tested with what looked like (to me) a black light device. Pretty outstanding results, and similar results on a toothbrush.

As for the convector, I can hope-- my friend said the unit is probably NOT strong enough for large items (other than the surface), but IS effective on smaller things. Looking at before and after on the cell phone, sunglasses and the dreaded toothbrush has made me a fan.

The Amazon price is well below the cost of the same unit on the web, in catalogs, or on several Television Shopping Networks.

I think it is worth a try, for yourself or others. I have several seniors in my family who might use, and get a kick out of this.

I also want to sanitize the office phone! Very easy to use, and worth consideration - better than I expected, if you get me.

After seeing the pocket purifier on the news, I was so excited to receive it. Too bad it is defective! The flashlight and UV light don't turn on. I tested the batteries on other things, so I know it's not the batteries. It is also very cheaply made. To make things even better, I have to pay shipping to return it! Think twice before buying it!

Small UV Purifier, great size for sanitizing work environment (phone, keyboard, mouse, desktop, etc). The only drawback to the product is the on/off switch... The toggle is cheaply made and it's easy to turn on the flashlight option when you are trying to turn the UV sanitizing unit off.

After having two kinds of pneumonia I decided I needed to have a portable UV light to scan over my restaurant food to kill germs. This product worked okay, but, while kept in my purse, the slide off/on switch would often (unbeknownst to me) slide to the flashlight option and totally run down my batteries. This happened many times. The flashlight option shouldn't even be on there in my opinion.

I use this device whenever I'm away from my home. This product WORKS, though I won't trouble you with my success story. It has some great features: the flashlight, the "kickstand", and its small, perfectly portable size.

I only gave it three stars for the following reasons:

One, the switch moves too easily. If you push the switch all the way to one side, it turns on the flashlight. If you push it all the way to the other side, it turns on the UV light. The off position is right in between the two. The problem is that the switch, which IS textured, barely sticks out from the side of the device. This, coupled with the easy movement, makes it difficult to control where the switch stops. I have accidentally activated the device on several occasions. This can be very dangerous when it's in my purse or diaper bag. I have been fortunate that I have not accidentally exposed my skin to the UV light.

Two, the writing is upside down if you are holding the device properly (UV light facing down), which is misleading (though not too big a deal, unless you are OCD).

Three, the UV light is not as long as the entire length of the device. This is probably a safety feature, but it's annoying because the device is already small. It takes a lot longer to sanitize objects than it would if the UV light was a mere two inches longer.
