I'm not in a position to rate performance yet, but good grief it was beat all to heck.
Art Hungerford
If your pipe or fittings don't bottom out (in other words, if they screw all the way into the threads on your filter housing cap), add another washer.
M.Reed
The filter I was replacing came with adapters and installation sheet, these folks should have also.

We purchased this as a pre-filter for a water softener and for removal of chlorine from our city water supply. It does both well. It was fairly easy to install. Seems larger in person than in pictures. Much bigger than a 10" model. I purchased a large angle bracket from Lowes and lag bolted it to the wall for support. I'm estimating a cartridge lifespan of about six months based on our water usage. We've been using it for a couple months now. Our showers and baths no longer smell like a swimming pool. Our skin doesn't feel as dried out and itchy as before. The replacement cartridges are reasonable (about $45) here on Amazon.

To attach the top filter housing cap to the bracket (not supplied), you may need four 5/16" x 1 1/8" tapping hex head cap screws and washers (not supplied). I got mine at the local hardware store. (Read on, you'll need a couple more items while you're at the hardware store.) The mounting holes in the filter housing cap on mine were not threaded. I don't know if this is standard, or if they missed mine. If yours are not threaded, you'll either need to use a tap or use tapping screws. If you use tapping cap screws, be careful to start the tapping cap screws straight. The inlet and outlet pipe threads on the filter housing cap are not tapered. You have to use rubber washers (similar to a garden hose, but bigger). I used 1 1/4" x 3/4" x 1/8" rubber washers (one for the inlet fitting and one for the outlet fitting). 1 1/8" x 3/4" x 1/8" rubber washers may have worked better, but the hardware store I went to only had 1 1/4" x 3/4" x 1/8" - they were snug, but worked fine. Insert the washers all the way inside the 1" inlet and outlet threads in the filter housing cap. The washers will bottom out on the shoulder at the back of the inlet and outlet threads in the filter housing cap. When you screw your 1" male adapter or 1" pipe into the cap fittings (depending on what you use), they will bottom out on the rubber washers - thus providing the seal. Be careful not to over-tighten them as you could damage your rubber washers and cause a leak. If your pipe or fittings don't bottom out (in other words, if they screw all the way into the threads on your filter housing cap), add another washer. Mine worked fine with 1/8 thick washers.Read more ›

Really worked on the taste and smell of the water. In combination with the iron filter, no more rust taste or smell. Water tseted at 3ppm rust.

Chlorine in shower/warm bath water has always irritated my COPD for decades; finally, relief to take longer warm shower instead of cooler showers. Skin doesn't feel dry & tight after showering, everyone now takes longer showers. House plants and garden doing better too. No chlorine taste in drinks and ice cubes that you want to melt in your mouth. Doesn't help fluoride though.

Purenex asked me not to review this until they could make amends. It's been months now,so I'll share my experience
This arrived with no instructions,I've had 30 years experience in the piping industry, what could go wrong?
The specs say 1" IPS in and out, they neglect to say it is a non tapered pipe thread. So a trip to the hardware store to find a solution, there I found a ten pack of O-rings that worked.
The bracket took a little thought, but became obvious.
In the process of removing the filter housing,I got a little wet,so I had to drill and tap for a pet cock for draining the filter.Of course another trip to the hardware store.
I'm really not sure if it filters my well water yet,I think it has improved some.
For the price,it's O.K.,but a little bit of instruction could have made this a one day job,but it took much longer. The filter I was replacing came with adapters and installation sheet, these folks should have also.
I did find another use for an O-ring,so some good came of it.
