Expensive, but worth it,

This review is from: Pureology Hydrate Shampoo 10.1 oz and Hydrate Condition 8.5 oz duo (Misc.)
I started going gray when I was about 24, and have been getting my hair colored for almost ten years. During that time, I've tried all sorts of shampoos and conditioners -- both drugstore brands and higher-end ones -- and yet nothing compares to Pureology.
I've never spent this much on a shampoo and conditioner until I started using Pureology Hydrate, but this combo really does work to leave your hair silky soft and to keep the color vivid and vibrant. The way I justify the cost is that I honestly can go much longer between color appointments at the salon. I used to have to get my highlights and overall color done every eight weeks since it would really fade when I used other products, but now my stylist only has to do root touch-ups (to hide the grays) when I go in -- and I can go every two appointments for my color. Don't expect a lot of lather when you use the shampoo; it doesn't create a lot of suds, but it's still doing its job. I also love the mint smell of the conditioner; it provides a nice tingle on your scalp when you use it. The other big plus is that this really does make your hair feel healthy and soft. I use a flat iron almost every day (really, really bad -- I know!), but, since I've started using this, my hair doesn't have the split ends and damage that it used to. It feels soft and looks shiny. I also use CHI Silk Infusion before blowing my hair dry, and the combo has made my hair look the best that it ever has. I wanted to try the "straight" versions of Pureology's shampoo and conditioner, but have read reviews that say that they don't make your hair as healthy as the Hydrate versions do, so I'm sticking to these. I have other friends who also use this product, and who also say that nothing else compares to it for keeping your color bright and vivid. As another tip, my stylist recommends that you wait 48 hours before washing your hair after getting it colored so that the color has time to set. She mentioned that this is especially important if you have lowlights so that the darker color can oxidize with your hair. Rinsing is OK, just no shampoo. It's expensive, but worth it!

Great Natural Sulfate Free Choice,
This review is from: Pureology Hydrate Shampoo 10.1 oz and Hydrate Condition 8.5 oz duo (Misc.)
I've gone through various phases of my hair care, from short, long, highlighted, natural, but most often limited heat damage. I use a flat iron occasionally, don't own a blow dryer, and let my hair dry naturally. I have medium thick naturally dark brown. I have extremely sensitive skin, and am very sensitive to smell (new Pantene is just too strong). With that said, I have tried the Pureology Hydrate shampoo and conditioner, the S-Factor color savvy shampoo and conditioner, as well as the MoroccanOil Shampoo and Conditioner. Here is my result of these:
The s-factor products are the more inexpensive of the 3 sulfate-free options I've tried. They smell very fun and fruity, kind of like grape candy or skittles. The shampoo has good lather, and my hair felt de-tangled without needing a de-tangler when brushing wet. I feel of the three, however, these were the least hydrating, as after using for a few months, my hair did not feel as soft as when I had switched to using the s-factor product. I think for me, it's a toss up between the Pureology hydrate and the MoroccanOil brand shampoo and conditioner sets. Since I live in Hawaii, previously lived in Oregon, the smell of the MoroccanOil seems more beachy, a little more like suntan lotion's fragrance, however, I also love the lavender/orange sent of the Pureology as well. It is very earthy and natural, and the minty smell and refreshing minty feel of the of the Pureology Conditioner is also very nice on the scalp, which is a feeling lacking with the MoroccanOil. In short, I don't think there is too much difference in the shampoos other than the preference of fragrance and price, but to rank the conditioners as most conditioning to least conditioning: MorroccanOil, Purology Hydrate, S-Factor Color Savvy. Hope this helps -

The shampoo seemed half empty and I didn't like that there were no seals on either bottle. The smell was also not as strong as I remember from using these in the past, but not sure if the formula changed or there is something suspicious going on with the seller... probably wouldn't buy again I will get from a salon or Ulta next time.

Was skeptical, but found out...,

I recently started getting my hair professionally colored and the colorist pleaded with me to get a color shampoo and conditioner. I drug my heels and thought she was just trying to sell me something. I tried the Matrix there and it dried out my hair (which is strange because it used to not do that). I decided to go into one of the mall beauty salons/stores and ask what they recommended. They said Pureology is the best for color. I then decided to buy the 2.0 oz shampoo and conditioner in Hydrate and try it out. Pureology is notorious for being over-priced and expensive wherever you go. I have had the 2.0 oz bottles for over a week now and am very happy. I was told by the associate to use only a dime sized amount. I have super long hair, so you can understand my disbelief when my hair was able to be cleansed with just a small amount. My mom is a long-time Wen user and the products smell similar to Wen, but Wen made my hair a pile of grease. The conditioner in Pureology is not very thick, and it seems runny when it gets to my hair. But I am amazed that when I get out of the shower its as dry as straw but when its combed and blow-dryed out it is extremely soft and shiny. I tested the condition of my hair by twisting the pony tail section of my hair and feeling the smoothness. Matrix Sleek Look made it coarse, and frizzy and Pureology made it feel like silk. I don't have to use my straightener (CHI) when I use this stuff and I save more money (and I hate to admit that as frugal as I am!). I was shocked when my husband said to spend what I want because he really likes how my hair looks and notices a HUGE difference. I would recommend trying the 2.0 oz sizes and seeing how they work before you invest in the big bottles. I'm not a health nut at all, but really don't miss sulfates.

The Best Shampoo for coarse thick hair,

I was skeptical at first but this shampoo and conditioner is the best I've used. I tried using just the conditioner with my normal shampoo but my hair didn't shine the way it did when I used the duo together. After using, my hair looked healthier than I have ever seen it look. It does weigh down my hair a bit but because my hair is thick its fine. I will just use the conditioner on just the ends of my hair in the future. You only need to use a quarter sized amount of both shampoo and conditioner. It is quite expensive so I wished the cost would come down some. Other than that I cant say anything negative about this product.

Weighs down fine hair,

I heard raves about this product and have been trying a number of products recently trying to settle on a good set for my processed highlighted hair, plus new extensions. This is one of the sets I purchased. I found this particular version quite heavy for my fine hair. It did moisturize, but it was almost too much, and it really made my hair look a little greasy which is a problem that I have never had before because I have dry skin and hair. I will probably rotate it in once a week until gone, but not buy it again. If you have thick, more coarse hair, I bet it does wonders. It did feel silky and it doesn't take much product - I just find with my baby fine hair it wasn't a good match.

Best product on the market. A little spendy but due to the fact it is a concentrate, all you have to use is a little bit. No matter what the weather is, this shampoo and conditioner accomodates. I have long blonde hair and have moved from a humid climate to a VERY dry climate. This product works in both. It makes my hair feel like silk without weighing it down and does not mess with my color. It is the VERY BEST!!!!

my new shampoo and conditioner for life,

its expensive yes, but since i'm a guy and have short hair it will last a long time for me,also you only need a very small amount, it lathers up really well, its also much cheaper on amazon then in the stores, it even got rid of my mild dandruff, smells good too, makes my hair shiny and soft, it says no harsh salts on the bottle but the first several ingredients are all salt, i guess they are mild? in any case it seems to be chemical free, all vegan, works great, my hair has never been softer and not having flakes float around me every time i run my hand through my hair is a nice bonus too. i did try head and shoulders and it didnt do anything for me so i had resigned myself to having mild dandruff the rest of my life, so glad i found something to clear that up and moisten my scalp. this shampoo also says its for color treated hair, mine is natural, so i can't review whether it makes color last longer or not but even if you dont color your hair get it, my hair has never felt or looked better.

I have very thick, slightly wavy hair, always difficult to wash my hair, always takes a lot of shampoo and conditioner, especially conditioner.
But when i start use Pureology, washing hair turned into the most pleasant procedure in bathroom. On my thick hair requires very small amount of shampoo and the same with conditioner, which, moreover, has a very nice minty smell, which pleasantly surprised me. I love to wash my hair with this product, hair began to look more silky, and even curls become more curly. Thanks Purelogy! I will definitely order it again. I highly recommend you to this product.

I was introduced to Pureology back in 2005. I used it a few times, but had to change brands because it was hard for me to get. I looked back at pics from my wedding and LOVED my hair! It was so healthy and shiny. I am back to buying Pureology because it is the best!
