5.0 out of 5 stars The originality continues through the ashes of DFD, November 27, 2007

Ok, this review is a little biased as I am a long-time Dog Fashion Disco fan. In January 2007 DFD called it a day after 6 wonderful albums, climaxing with the amazing Adultery. I knew of Polkadot Cadaver immediately and was eagerly waiting to hear new material. The band consists of DFD original members, vocalist Todd Smith and drummer John Ensminger, along with guitarist Jasan Stepp who joined in late 2004. Lets be honest: This IS Dog Fashion Disco part II and that's a GREAT thing. DFD was one of the most original and talented bands in the eclectic rock/metal genre. Polkadot Cadaver does literally pick up where DFD left off. The stream-of-consciousness lyrics, the insane time signature and musical style changes, they are all present. Purgatory Dance Party is an amazing blend of pop/rock/metal/jazz/dance fury. There is even some electronic drums this time around that adds to the dancy feel of some songs There are lush acoustic songs (Chloroform Girl/Haunted Holiday) and quirky jazz/polka tunes (Wolf In Jesus Skin). I cannot say enough great things about this record. The DFD boys have done it again. This is one of the most original albums of the year and is a must have for fans of DFD...obviously. To everyone else still unaware of how great this group of musicians is then check them out. DFD called it a day because they never got the label support or attention they deserved after all those years of constant touring, yet they are still here in a different form making exciting new music that is equally dark as it is humorous and fun. Get this record NOW! Nuff said.

By the way, there is like 20+ mins of SATAN at the end of the record. You'll see. :P

5.0 out of 5 stars Catchy, ambitious, talented, what more do you want?, February 28, 2009

This album is simply incredible. There's no throwaway tracks and there is lots of variety. "Purgatory Dance Party" is better than any DFD album, and to fans of that band, that's saying a lot. After listening to the incredible "Bring Me the Head of Andy Warhol," I was in disbelief. That is a rare contender to one of my favorite songs of all time. Few tracks come to mind when people ask me my favorite song, but that is one that would come up. I'm anticipating another album from Polkadot Cadaver more than 90% of the bands I listen to. If you've stumbled upon this review from some random place, I don't think you'll appreciate this as much as say, a Dog Fashion Disco fan. But if you are a fan of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Mr. Bungle, Idiot Flesh and other original music this is made for you.

Just got this in the mail yesterday and this is easily one of the most impressive CD's I've heard in a long, long time. The reviews here pretty much cover everything that needs to be said about this brilliant CD. If only there were more bands of this caliber, the world would be a much better place. It's pretty funny that Itunes imported this as "Religious" in the genre category. This band deserves your support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outrageouly Addictive, February 5, 2008
This review is from: Purgatory Dance Party (Audio CD)
This album isn't sold at any of my local record stores, which is a crying shame. This band is great and had I not known about Dog Fashion Disco before hand I would not have purchased this CD. I personally love it. It has everything that I love about music with some outlandish themes rolled into the mix. I couldn't stop listening to it when it finally arrived in the mail. Great Album. Five Stars.

Let me just say that I'm a gigantic Dog Fashion Disco fan and I literally cried when I heard they were breaking up. When Todd announced that he was doing a new project called Polkadot Cadaver, I was extremely happy. When I heard the 4 tracks from Purgatory Dance Party on PC's myspace, I was pleasantly surprised and had high expectations for the cd. When I received my pre-order in the mail and popped in the cd, I was blown away with the eerie Haunted Holiday to the super awesome Sole Survivor and then the 15+ minute loop of "Satan" as the hidden track, sweet! Every song is equally amazing but the songs that really stand out to me (besides the 4 that were uploaded prior to the cd release) are Purgatory Dance Party, Bring me the Head of Andy Warhol and Deathwish. This cd is a MUST OWN for any DFD fan. This cd will be a staple in my collection for the rest of my days.

4.0 out of 5 stars A crowd pleaser for Dog Fashion Disco fans old and new, November 29, 2007

I was a little more than upset when Dog Fashion Disco called it quits after the release of Adultery, which was their best album by far with its technical brilliance, beautifully delivered vocals, and concept album feel. With the release of Polkadot Cadaver's Purgatory Dance Party, remaining members Todd Smith, Jasan Smith, and John Ensminger deliver an album that is stylistically similar to that of DFD, but less daring and with more of a simple approach, and I say those words with the best intentions. A play through the album will give you tons of different musical style switch ups that range from circus sounding music to metal, from disco to old eerie horror movie sounding music, and beautifully melodic acoustic tracks. And then you have Todd's unmistakable vocal style, which is unique and catchy, but also sinister sounding. The notes he can hit at times are unbelievable. And then you have the wonderfully morbid, murderous and often funny lyrics that all DFD fans know and love. So if you are experiencing DFD withdrawal, pick this album up on the way to getting your meds filled.

5.0 out of 5 stars music Gods! Polkadot fashion disco dog cadavers!, November 28, 2007

This is the best Cd I have purchased in Years (Dog Fashion Disco cd's not included Adultery)! Each song is different from start to finish, it's like a sick and twisted rollercoaster ride through the mind of Satan. Check out Chloroform girl. This song has the most disturbing lyrics I can remember and it's the best song since Pogo The Clown ( Committed to a Bright Future). This is a must buy! These Guys have filled the void that Mr.bungle Mr. Bungle/Faith No more Angel Dust had left

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Pattons competition, February 22, 2008
This review is from: Purgatory Dance Party (Audio CD)
I had heard of Dog Fashion Disco before but never listened to them. One day,
searching for something new, I came across this disc. Not knowing immediately that one band morphed into another, I listened to some of the tracks from Purgatory Dance Party. I usually lean towards metal, but I have always liked Faith No More and Mr.Bungle, and the similarities are apparent.
But something about Polkadot Cadaver grabbed my interest faster than those others did back in the day (maybe older, more mature?). The excellent mix of styles pulled me in, forcing me to instantly order the cd. In addition, I started searching out Dog Fashion Discos back catalog and found them to be just as awesome. This cd has been in my stereo on repeat for the past month and will continue to be. Highly recommended.
Just as a side note, I noticed a lot of people comparing PC and DFD to the obvious Mike Patton influence, but with those bands John Zorn was a
huge influence on them. Check out the Naked City disc
especially, or some of his other projects and see were some of this stemmed from.
