His flowing melodies carry stories told by a true Texas songwriter, with evocative lyrics inspired by wide open spaces, friends, family and the wayfarers who populate our lives in unexpected ways. Purgatory Road is filled with musical influences that range from Dan Fogelberg and James Taylor to Carlos Santana, Cuco Sanchez and Asleep at the Wheel. An alumnus of the Cheatham Street Warehouse singer/songwriting class that spawned the likes of Todd Snider, Terri Hendrix, James McMurtry, Bruce Robison and Hal Ketchum, Martinez's pedigree as an Americana artist of the first caliber was already stamped well before he attracted the attention of Bruce's brother, Charlie Robison, who encouraged Martinez to audition for TV's Nashville Star.

Deep soulful music...,

I have had the pleasure of hearing this artist's other offerings. His music is pure country with an occasional Latin flare. This particular album, in particular the lyrics, really captured my attention. jAm is a talented writer who can convey emotions through his written word. This stands true with his lyrics in this album. It is a pleasure to listen to.

This is the first album,i have bought from this artist.....he will grow on you!!! it started with just a couple of songs,and now its the whole cd. I am looking into other cd's of his. Very good talented artist

john Arhtur martinez has such a gift with lyrics and a wonderful presentation. This collection is the best production - with suberb musicians and background vocals to add to the jAm mystic. Utopia, the first cut blows me away everytime I hear it. NOt sure where his music is being classified these days - Country, Americana or whatever - This is a must for your collection.
