4.0 out of 5 stars Finally!
I've been waiting for the US release of this album for a really long time now. 3.0 out of 5 stars Some Good Stuff, Hit or Miss
The first time I ever heard of the group Bif Naked was on the TV show Alias - the song "I Love Myself Today" (at least, that's where I think I heard it).

Great song, searing, good (if a little rough) vocals. I checked out the album, and it does have a few things to offer - "Choking On the Truth" is another great song, with interesting vocals.

I've been waiting for the US release of this album for a really long time now. Every time I drive up to Canada, I considered getting it, but as was the case with her previous release "I Bificus" both versions had diffrent songs, and the US version was a LOT better. This time, the two versions are exactly the same. Anyway, it's a pretty good release, despite the absence of any spoken word tracks (like on her self titled debut). I would recomend "I Bificus" over this album, mostly because it has much stronger lyrics, but this album has it's strong points, like "I Love Myself Today" "Tango Shoes" and "Stolen Sidewalk". Please support Biffy and BUY THIS ALBUM!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars work by true pros, April 29, 2003
This review is from: Purge (Audio CD)
I must say that few albums have impressed me lately as much as this one. The tunes are professional and well done, but most importantly this band slides effortlessly from one genre to another and does them all suberbly! From the refreshing pop of "Tango Shoes" to "I Love Myself Today", which literally roars out of the gate like a top fuel dragster, to the different and unique edginess of "October Song", the album changes pace seemlessly. One moment you're listening to the driving rock of "I Love Myself...." and the next moment your listening to the touching and beautifully done ballad "Stolen Sidewalk". There are many bands that do one genre very well, and even more bands that fail at mixing them. Bands this flexible and talented are both rare and a treat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand! Just Grand., January 28, 2003
This review is from: Purge (Audio CD)
Could Purge be just as satisfying as Bif's previous release, I Bificus? Indeed. Taken with the spunk and heart from I Bificus, Purge is a full on great listen. Choking On the Truth begins the cd with a similar sound as the tracks on I Bificus, but with Tango Shoes, things get a bit different. And there's nothing bad in that. The nifty beat to Tango Shoes is followed by Dawn which mellows out a bit but doesn't let you down. I Love Myself Today is a power anthem! Was for me. Great song. Things do get a little slow with Stolen Sidewalk. Bif's lyrics always shine but with Stolen Sidewalk, they're touching in an off way. But that's what makes her music so grand. The remaining tracks continue to be great listens. Most notable are ... well, all of them. Although Leader, You Are the Master, and Hold On tend to be more favorable for me.

Bif has done an awesome follow up to I Bificus. Another album? Yes, please.

5.0 out of 5 stars Liked her in the beginning, Love her now, January 2, 2003
This review is from: Purge (Audio CD)
I've liked this chick since she first came out. 'I Bificus' was a good album, a lot of up-tempo songs that you can rock to, and one or two slower songs you can really get into. But with this new album, she has proven her talent for sure. With a voice semi-soundin like No Doubt's front-girl Gwen, and a style that screams punk/goth, she has made a winner with 'Purge'. Most people have only heard of this album through a tv commercial for cars or trucks or whatever it's for, with the song 'I Love Myself Today' featured. And that song is one of the best. Other greats are 'Stolen Sidewalk', 'October Song', 'Story Of My Life', 'Religion', and 'Hold On'. If you liked her first album, or had mixed opinions of it, this one is one you should check out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better The Bif!, July 12, 2002
This review is from: Purge (Audio CD)
Bif Naked stands strong with her latest album "Purge". This album has more singing and less yelling and the songs are better than any song from Bif Naked's previous albums. Overall Bif Naked has grown with this album. I was obsessed with the album "I Bifcus" because the songs touched me on a level that no other musician has been able to touch. When I found out about this album I knew I was going to be infatuated with it. This album has been proven worthy, and the passion that Bif puts into these songs is beyond believable. Her vocals are so melancholy that they almost bring tears to ones eyes.

Track Highlights

1.) Choking On The Truth - This song has a great beat and the chorus is fun to sing along to.

2.) Tango Shoes - Prior to listening to the album, I judged this song by its title thinking who would write a song about "Tango Shoes". After listening to this track I have come to realize its uniqueness and meaning which has made it by far one of my favorites.

3.) Dawn - I like the sound of this track because it has an antique feeling to it and the lyrics are extremely sad and meaningful.

4.) I Love Myself Today - This is one of the more fun tracks on this album stepping away from its sad theme. This is one of those songs that you just want to scream along to. This track is very positive and will get you through your day. This track was also the first single released from this album

5.) Stolen Sidewalk - This is a song that has been compared to "Lucky" from the "I Bificus" album and I just can't understand why. Don't get me wrong "Stolen Sidewalk" is a fantastic track that is an original in its own, but so is "Lucky".

6.) October Songs - This song is a fun track with a somewhat positive message. This song can be portrayed in two ways I suppose. This track is extremely catchy and the lyrics were really thought out.

7.) Leader - This song is the second single from this album and it's fierce beat will make it a hit. This track has a good meaning indicating that people shouldn't be followers. At this track nears the end it begins to sound like a heavy-metal track.

8.) You Are The Master - This is a great song that has single potential. This song is by far one of the most unique songs I have ever heard. Not only is the beat unique, but just the pure Idea of the song. Basically, Bif portrays herself as a dog in this song and she simply is about to give up saying "You are the master and I am The Dog". She is saying that in relationships people begin to feel empowered and the other person simply becomes the dog needing everything from the master.

9.) Regular Guy - This is a great bouncy track where Bif gets to express what she wants in a guy.

10.) Hold On - This is a great ballad that expresses at its minimum to "Hold On". This song almost sounds country but its not quite there.

11.) Story Of My Life - This is another fun track and Bif's voice sounds so beautiful over this song's un-tempo beat. There is a little break in this song telling a little story, I found it kind of funny because you don't hear that often in many songs.

12.) Religion - This is yet another great track with a cool, dark beat and fantastic lyrics. At this songs simplest form Bif is saying "You are my religion". At the end of this track there is a hidden remix of "I Love Myself Today" which I found quite unique because it has a techno sound. I found the Idea of remixing a rock song and making it into a dance track quite rare.

This is Bif Naked at the fullest and if you missed her with her last album then here is your second chance. This isn't a CD you can pass up. This CD should be hitting the US soon as well, any day now, mark my words. Don't be the one that wonders what everyone else is listening to and check this CD out.

Personaly I think that Superbeautifulmonster is her best album but this album shows her transformation from the earlier stuff to now. Favorite track "I Love Myself Today", now that's undeniable rock! This album is also hard to find a record stores for some reason which is why I had to go online for it.

I bought this album first & was not disappointed. I think some of her songs kinda have to grow on some, but for the most part you can find alot to enjoy in each of her songs. She's a great singer with a good range and alot of spunk! The lyrics are good, many will find much to relate to in her words, and the music is awesome. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys female rock/alternative/punk rockers!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised., October 3, 2002
This review is from: Purge (Audio CD)
My friend, Ballsey, the guy who wrote the above review, gave me a copy of this CD after I heard "I Love Myself" on TV. To tell you the truth, I really liked it. I know Ballsey will think I am being blasphemous, but I didn't really like her first outing, "i Bificus", i just couldn't get into it. The lyrics were interesting, but they were also a little too weird and trying-to-be-metaphorical ("Spaceman"). "Purge" is really good though, it's pure fun rock mixed with harmless guitar pop ("Tango Shoes")are a really fun listen. Every song is radio friendly, and that is saying a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars good, but not great, January 25, 2002

Let me just start off by saying that I am a huge Bif fan. That said, I was a little disappointed by this album. "I Bificus" had a much more rock feel to it, with lyrics that were somehow more relatable. With "Purge" Bif has incorporate more of an 80's pop feel. That's not to say Purge doesn't have its high points. "Stolen Sidewalk" and "Hold On" are both beautiful slow ballads. Bif can pull off singing about love without sounding cheesy or contrived. Then there are the straight-up rock songs "I Love Myself Today", "October Song", and "Story of my Life". The album does have slower moments though, and thats why I'm giving it 4 stars. I thought each song off "I Bificus" was single-material. Despite the flaws however, "Purge" is still WAAAAYYYY better than most new rock music. Buy it! Oh for all the tight-wads out there, you can go to Bif's official site (bifnaked.com) and order the album there for a much lower price. The only thing is they ship it from Canada (duh :)) so it takes longer...just fyi...
