It doesn't matter what your faith is, this is a book worth reading. It address very real human problems that we are facing especially after the events of 9/11. It was very surprising for me to read that Hamza Yusuf was trained in traditional/classical Islam. I always thought that traditional Islam, (the madrasas system that I hear about on CNN and Fox News), was the cause of some Muslims fanatical nature. I thought Mr. Yusuf's speeches were very insightful (www.zaytuna.org - under the audio section).

I think non-Muslims and especially MUSLIMS (the ones that are shown on TV yelling and screaming all of the time) can benefit a great deal from this book.

This is perhaps one of the most important books for muslims that has been written in a long time. The point of Islam, the ultimate goal, is to transform ourselves until we have attained to a pure heart. The Qur'an itself says that, "On the day of judgement no one is safe save the one who returns to God with a pure heart". When we die everything will pass away and all we will be left with is our hearts and our deeds. This is why purifying our hearts is of uptmost importance and this book transmits the distilled wisdom of the ancient doctors of the heart. Reading this book will give you the tools to identify and treat all the diseases of your heart, its just up to you to put it into action.

I should also mention that this book is the outgrowth of a 24-tape audio lecture on the same poem. The audio was also done by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf.

This book is for everyone, wither you are a Muslim or Not. You will feel totally different after reading it. It changed my life and i am sure it will to yours too.

This book dose not have the Dos and Donts, it gives you options and its your choice to follow them or ignore them. You wount go to hell if you Ignore thim but it will affect your life.

The book deals with subjects such as hate and envy and how to will affect you socially and spiritually. When you clense your heart from such sickness your body will be free.

Anwwyas it is a really really good book to read.

This is an excellent book the would help anyone understand how Islam spread. It'll show why people like the Mongols who conqured muslims became muslims themselves.

For anyone that wants a non-bias view of Islam should read this book.

A wonderful book for the Muslim and non-Muslim alike. This classic poem is translated eloquently and accurately with a careful and thorough commentary that is easy to read and understand. It is sure to become a source of constant reference for the lover of spirituality.

Alhamdullillah. The book is truly an excellent guide for all of us who wish to attain nearness to God, but lack the insight and knowledge of our scholars.

This book is very well written. It addresses the diseases of the heart and ways to get rid of them. I think every human being should have a copy of this book in his or her library. I recommend reading the whole book at least once and then using it as a reference from time to time.

I think this book is great for Non-Muslims more than it is for Muslims because it sheds light on the beauty and gentle ways of true Muslims and their ways of life. It asks people to look within themselves and accept who they are first and foremost and then start eliminating the negative aspects and characteristics in ones self in order to live in harmony with a clean and healthy heart. This book has inspired me and shown me how easy it is to clean my heart from all the anger and greed. It has shown me that gratitude is the best way to live life, being grateful for every little thing i have as opposed to feeling bad and angry at what i dont have.
This is a must read for everybody seeking to better their lives.

Sheikh Hamza Yusuf did a 24 tape lecture back in 1999, based on the original work of Sheikh <> called "Purification of the Heart". At the time he promised to provide the translation of the original work, and it seems that this is it.

The work is a compilation of the finite diseases of the heart, and the methods used to cure those diseases. The information is awesome for such short book, and useful for everyone. I would recommend people listen to the audio tapes also, but it is not required.

From my understanding, the book "Prophetic Invocations" is a companion book to this one.

This book is a must read for any muslim or nonmuslim wishing to purify themselves from all the things that can afflict the human heart. It's such a deep, rich book full of practical advice for each heart ailment. Once you finish reading the book, you will want to read it again and again. And you will want to keep it for a handy reference.
