We raise 2-3 litters of Belgian Malinois and Belgian Sheepdog puppies each year. Very small scale breeders of show dogs only. And we've tried a bunch of different puppy foods over the years. It is always a balancing act on price vs quality vs availability. After nearly 15 years of doing this, we have settled on this puppy food as our standard. Puppies do well on it, they eat it readily, and buyers of our pups can find it all across the country. Even more so now that Amazon is in the mix!

We start out putting it in a blender with goat's milk that we produce here on the farm. Start out blending it into mush. Then, as they get older, we blend it less and less. Until finally we are just mixing it with milk and serving. Goat's milk is the best!

It is very difficult to find this brand for Toy bread in the stores. I am very happy that it is available on Amazon and it is actually cheaper, too.

Flavor Name: Small Bites Lamb & Rice FormulaSize Name: 6lb Verified Purchase
I used to feed my Shelly Pro Plan's Chicken and Rice formula, however, Purina changed it by making a shredded blend which consists of regular nuggets with shredded, beige pieces. Shelly does not like the new blend and I had a hard time getting her to eat it. Consequently, I tried to find another Pro Plan product that would be more appetizing for her. I tried the All Life Stages Small Bites Lamb and Rice product and Shelly finds it much more palatable. For one thing, all the nuggets are same size and they are solid unlike the shredded formula where the nuggets are mixed with beige, rubbery pieces. I'm not kidding, the beige pieces look like rubber and when I tried to pull one apart, it was like pulling rubber. No wonder Shelly doesn't like it. I don't blame her. Shelly also likes the "all life stages" smaller nuggets although being an Australian Shepherd, she can easily chew bigger nuggets.

I buy Purina's Pro Plan because they state it is made in America. I read the label on the package and it does indicate that the product is manufactured in St. Louis, MO. I do not want any dog food that is made in foreign countries, especially China. I heard that Purina is now making some of their products in China so I will call Purina (the parent company is Nestle, Inc.) to be sure that this particular product is, in fact, made in the USA. In these times, you can't be too careful. If it is not made here, I will write an addendum to my review.

Shelly really likes this product and it seems easier on her stomach. If you choose to purchase it, just be careful to incorporate some of your pet's regular brand with this new formula until your pet's digestive track can get used to the change in diet. I did that with Shelly's food and it worked out well.

Not Terribly overpriced. And palatable for my Great Dane.! Vet recommended it.
Cost and shipping is spot on. And don't have to worry if there are coupons for Petsmart:)it all comes discounted from amazon to my door for cheaper! Who could complain about that?!

Our Vet recommended this dog food after I inquired on what we could do to add to the quality of life for our dog. Boy did this help!!! Our dog as always been "well" taken care of (spoiled rotten) but I did notice a change in about 6 weeks after she (our weenie) dog has had the food. 1) she is more greedy that ever-our Vet warned us. It's like she can't get enough food. Weenie dogs are dare devils but she has more energy and all around spunk that she did before. I've notice her teeth are stronger and her eyes which were getting cloudy are looking clear. I don't know if it's just the food are all the other things we are doing for her. I will say the just is helping and we have been purchasing this food for about a year now and will not switch back. So if you have a older dog that is basically your child...then try it.

I commented on the other person's review, but thought I would say that I'm happy with this dog food. My dog had stomach issues with science diet, and with this one, they went away. I really think that it's more about what YOUR particular dog does well with and not necessarily that one food is better than the other (as long as you purchase at the petstore and don't go for something like ol' roy at the grocery store). In other words, your dog might happen to do better on science diet, you just have to do some trial and error.

Also, I was surprised to discover that this food is *way* cheaper at the petstore than on amazon. Normally it's the other way around!

My dog loves this food. I've spent hours comparing dog foods and prices between the cheap "grocery store" brands and the very expensive brands and I find this to be a good middle ground since we are on a budget. Small bites are perfect for my lhasa / maltese.

It is an excellent dog food. My chihuahua loves it. The pieces are very small and easier for a small breed dog to eat. No regrets purchasing it here. It was highly recommended to me by breeders I know.
