5.0 out of 5 stars helped an aging dog
We have a 14 year old Corgi and he was having intestinal problems and loose stool. Since putting him on the FortiFlora all of that is much better. We were buying the product through our vet, but the price on Amazon was to good to pass up. 3.0 out of 5 stars It works, but give it time. Too expensive as a daily supplement.
This is not a quick fix, but it does work if you give it time. Like any systemic treatment, it needs time to nudge your dog's digestive system. For the first 8 days, I honestly wasn't sure if it was doing anything, but by the end of the 2nd week, I could definitely see a difference. This is not a quick fix, but it does work if you give it time. Like any systemic treatment, it needs time to nudge your dog's digestive system. For the first 8 days, I honestly wasn't sure if it was doing anything, but by the end of the 2nd week, I could definitely see a difference. Prior to using the FortiFlora, my puppy had chronic diarrhea, and at least 2 very soft stools every day. Now she has virtually no soft stools and there's been no re-occurrence of the diarrhea. I would not recommend this as a cure so much as a preventive, since it does take so long to take effect. The price ($23.99 +s/h) makes it a bit prohibitive as a daily supplement, which is the main reason I gave it 3 instead of 4 stars. I suspect Purina would have a more long-term customer base for this product if they set the price at $10 - that's still 33 cents a day, but that's do-able for most consumers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great combincation of probiotics and antioxidents!, January 22, 2009
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Purina Veterinary Diets Fortiflora Canine, 30 Sachets Per Box (Misc.)
Our dog suffers from chronic urinary tract infections due to a congenital abnormality and is also chronically constipated. She also has food allergies and is allergic to grass. At 5 years old, she's had more than her share of health concerns! She is on a special diet, gets a cranberry supplement twice daily along with a fiber supplement. We try and limit the use of antibiotics but when our dog is in pain with an active UTI, antibiotics are the best course of treatment for her. In reading about the benefits of probiotics, especially while using antibiotics, I had a discussion with our vet about adding them to our dog's food. She fully encouraged us to put our furry child on probiotics, and addded that probiotics might also help her better absorb not only food, but her food supplements and the latest course of antibiotics. Forti-flora also has anti-oxidents and vitamins, so in addition to the probiotic, it should also support the immune system.

At the same time, we placed our dog on a diet for urinary tract health. The transition to a different food did not cause the temporary digestive upset we normally anticipate in a diet change, no matter how slowly we transition the food. I beleive this was due to our adding Forti-Flora to her morning meal. Since she's been on Forti-Flora, we've also been able to cut back on the use of a fiber supplement since her constipation problem has improved dramatically. While the product information addresses the use of the product for diaherrea, it seems to be working to help our dog with the opposite problem. This suggests that Forti-Flora is helping to balance the flora in her colon, just as it claims.

Our vet charges [..] (not including tax!) for a box of [...] sachets. So we now get it online for about 65% of that.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fortiflora helped!, February 28, 2008
By
Our dog, who had inflammatory bowel disease, was helped by this product. The difference was not striking, but it did seem to reduce her diarrhea when not much else did. It was suggested to us by a conventional vet who had glowing words of praise for it. Our holistic vet said it wasn't well-absorbed and thus, not helpful. She suggested a different acidophilus product, but this worked best.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bloody Diarrhea, August 28, 2007
Afer paying almost $30 for a month's supply and almost $100 in vet bills, I have asked for a refund from Purina on this product. Not only did our dog's loose stools get worse, but she experienced watery, bloody diarrhea and we had to take her back to our vet. Word of caution, make sure your vet knows this product contains over 40% protein . . .for pets who cannot tolerate protein, this formulation may not give you the results you were looking for.

FortiFlora has cured our dog of recurring stomach upset, loose stools and mucous diarrhea. Our Welsh Corgi has had a sensitive stomach ever since we picked her up from the breeder. We spent much time and great expense taking her to vet on a weekly basis for the first few months after bringing her home. She was tested often for various parasites and allergies - all negative - and the loose stools and regular bouts of diarrhea continued. Throughout the process, our vet would instruct us to give our puppy FortiFlora during bad episodes - which helped tremendously. We came to realize that with FortiFlora on board, our dog was symptom free. Eventually, we began to give her one packet each and every morning mixed with her food and it literally changed our lives! With daily FortiFlora, our dog has had healthy stools every day for several months. Not one bout of mucous, watery stools since the daily dose. We are sold on this product! Of course if your dog has similar symptoms, you should take it to the vet for thorough exam...but if tests prove negative, we encourage you to give daily FortiFlora a try!

4.0 out of 5 stars Our dog really liked it, April 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
He was a picky eater, but when I put this on he would eat right away. I don't know if it made any difference for his problem - sporadic bile vomiting. We thought this was nerves from being left alone on certain days, since he's done it off and on since he was a puppy. But recently we switched his food from Nutro to Purina Pro Plan and he hasn't had a problem since, and he readily eats (like a normal dog). A quick search on Nutro will bring up a lot of results of vomiting, and with this personal experience, I don't recommend Nutro at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great!, August 31, 2009
This review is from: Purina Veterinary Diets Fortiflora Canine, 30 Sachets Per Box (Misc.)
I rescue dogs and have a couple with some immune problems/diahrrea due to malnutrition and earlier illnesses. I tried FortiFlora daily for a week, then every other day for another week and then once a week and the diahrrea is gone! They have gained weight and appear much healthier. Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars FortiFlora works wonders, July 27, 2007

I have a dog that had severe bacterial infections as a puppy. The resulting hardcore antibiotic treatment wreaked havoc on his digestive system. He couldn't eat anything without getting diarrhea, sometimes really severe. Within two days of using FortiFlora his diarrhea was much better, and now after 3 months he can eat just about anything (within reason of course). I tried tons of other probiotics and this one was the only one that worked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Product...Ended My Dog's IBS Chronic Diarrhea Issue's, March 17, 2011
My Shih Tzu developed chronic diarrhea at about 6 months old. I could not housebreak her, she would have accidents constantly all over the house and at night in her 'condo' (crate). 4 months of this... I was really at my wit's end, -Vet said she has IBS, so we tried change in diet; wormers; antibiotics; when on 2nd visit to my Vet's he recommended I try FortiFlora. Well, Aaleyah went from being a very sickly puppy to a healthy, happy furbaby, -did a complete 380' turnabout, finally potty trained. I have to maintain her on FortiFlora for the rest of her life, but having a healthy, happy dog is well worth the price !
I HIGHLY recommend this product.
