Book Description

March 1, 2007
Purls Forever is not your typical knitting pattern book. It is a gathering of warm family stories by wonderful women who knit garments as signs of their love. Jonelle Raffino literally opens her family hope chest filled with beautifully hand-crafted pieces and shares the stories that each family treasure brings to mind. From the earliest piece, an exquisite shawl made by her great-great-grandmother in Italy, this book journeys through six generations of knitting to little finger puppets made by her daughters, as Jonelle teaches them the craft passed on from mother to daughter for so many years. Filled with both humorous and emotional short stories, Purls Forever features family photos of treasured knits both old and new! Each story is accompanied with a pattern for an up-to-date adaptation of those treasured old garments of exceptional quality and design-worthy of becoming family heirlooms in any family. Purls Forever is a true treasure and something every knitter will prize. Purls Forever features: 21 short stories based on various family heirloom garments made by various women in the author's family for over 6 generations Beautiful family photos with various knit or crocheted garments that evoke the memories of the author as she shares the love her family has shown through their handmade garments. Editorial Reviews

Review

Last nite I snuggled down into bed with my down comforters and your book in my hand. WHAT A DELIGHTFUL evening I had reading about your family. Thank you. It was wonderful thinking what a great great job you did first of all to honor your family in such a charming way. What a delight. Doug took one copy to read too and we each had such a great time and enjoyment sharing the life and times of family love and yarn. The knitted coat hangers brought back such a fun reminder of that time past. Yes we too had them and I still have a few??? I think who have survived the many moves and time factor.... of the" let's get rid-ot these things, thingee". I dove through my closets this AM to see if I still had any of them and could not find a one. Know there are many still who live in my 96 year old mothers closet. How dear of you to rescue some from the garage sale. Thank you so much for allowing a wonderful adventure into the life and times and "Yarns" that was a big part of the threads of love and life in your family. Your book made me all warm and "fuzzy" with you allowing us to share it with you. --Barb Keeling, knitting designer

Jonelle I got my copy of your book, "Purls Forever" today and I could not put it down --via email
