From the Author
This is a third edition. It has gradually evolved from a collection of articles originally published in a monthly newsletter, to a comprehensive and practical guide for opportunity searchers.
I have particularly enjoyed adding the new Q and A section at the end of each Chapter. The questions have come from meetings and training sessions held by job searchers and thus are very practical.
We have discovered, and keep being reminded that there is no one unique and best method for searching for new opportunities. We can definitely provide advice on things not to do, and we can set out a list of practical dos in connection with any job search. But, we have certainly found that there are many routes to jobs and many styles of job searching.
Sincerity, knowledge, experience, follow through and straight dealing pay off over and over again. People get good positions in spite of imperfect resumes and a stumbling and hesitant approach to interviewing.
We recommend and advise people on how to best approach their marketplace of employment opportunities. But we remain aware that in some of the intangible areas that have to do with style and substance, there is little we can do or say to improve a persons approach.
We want many people to receive, in the easiest format possible, the benefit of the advice of our firm, achieved through many years of practical assistance to job searchers.
This is a book which can be opened on any page and some bits of information and advice will spring out at the reader.
I sincerely hope that many people will read it critically, and consider giving us their opinions on what it takes to get re-employed.
