Book Description

November 1, 1994

"If a fable is a legendary story of supernatural happenings," Mr. Swann says, "or a narration intended to enforce a useful truth, then these four are fables--which shouldn't be confused with fairy tales targeted only for children. These, then, are tales for kind and loving people of all ages."

"The Temple of Sanity" tells of an idea that became a reality and grew into an insitution, only to develop rules and leaders, cliques and critics . . .

"A Clay-Modeling Lesson" tells of the four identical boys separated at birth and raised Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and atheist, and how they met as representatives of their respective communities . . .

"The Fate and Destiny of a Traveling Clairvoyant" tells of a woman with a special talent, who found that people prefer seeing dimly to seeing clearly . . .

"Watcher of the Purple River" tells of an old woman and a young man, and how she taught him to watch the river of life . . .

These fables came to Ingo Swann as a gift from a part of himself: He awoke four mornings in a row and literally had to write them. They have in common a gentle wisdom, a kindness, an empathy, that will make them immediately precious--and then unforgettable--to the reader whose heart is open.

5.0 out of 5 stars So FINE!, May 18, 2002
This review is from: Purple Fables (Paperback)
Four BEAUTIFUL little short stories that teach about the powers of perception that we all have in us. We are wonderful perceiving and discriminating beings. Our powers have been stifled. Covered up. Undeveloped. And their lack of development gives power to the power elite, who revel in our helplessness and make us pay with our lives and our freedom. These little stories are for all ages. They tell us how to discover, utilize and handle our innate abilites. They help us to understand and still love those who fear it in us. We can revel in our wonderousness. Read them to your children. Read them over and over. Almost too beautiful to bear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small But Deep, December 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Purple Fables (Paperback)
4 Short Stories that stay with you. Their beauty grows in you.
You will find yourself referring back to them for the rest of your life. Small Book. One could rush through them in a morning, but I found each story worth savoring for a few days before I went on. Exceedingly useful for those who are "wild-type" psychics: people who have had spotty experiences with precognition, clarivoyance or the like but don't know how to handle it, or perhaps more pertinent, don't know how to understand the resentment that follows these special people.
Helps one to cope with and put into perspective the abilities that we all have, when they surface in our lives. Thank you Ingo. Your work will live long in our hearts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired and enjoyable, July 5, 2005
By
This review is from: Purple Fables (Paperback)
I picked this up at a Crown Book Liquidation center and am so glad that I did. I loved this book. It reminded me first of The Alchemist, then oddly, briefly of Uri Geller. I am fascinated with the concept of parapsychology. These are four wonderful tales of simplicity but with resonance beyond their surface. I was amazed to read how the author wrote these on each of four consecutive days with an inspiration that was described as "dreamlike". I am adding this book to my Permanant collection and will now be seeking any other books by this writer.
