Editorial Reviews

Review

Who would want a baby with purple hair? Mrs. Della Ragon, that's who. Della is feeling kind of funny, so she goes to the doctor for a visit. She is quite thrilled to find out she is going to have a baby. But then the doctor tells her the baby might have purple hair! As the story progresses, clever clues with animated illustrations help to solve the mystery of Della's baby. Absolutely fun-filled and heart warming, this rhyming tale reassures children that parental love is universal. --Doorway.com

Rhythmic text and amusing illustrations make this children's story a delight. It increases the young listener's interaction by being predictable and by repeating successive lines. The message is clear that a mother will love her child no matter what it's appearance. "Purple hair? I don't care! I'll love my little baby anyway." Buy this book to share with your 3-6 year old and find out why Mrs. Ragon's baby may have purple hair (and skin of green!)

After having to check out and renew this book on a weekly basis at the local library, I finally decided we need to buy a copy of our own! The illustrations are delightful; the rhymes and repeating patterns are perfect for younger children; and the story itself is still fun for my 6-year-old. I am expecting soon and this book is a great "prep" for my 4yo and 2yo as we talk about what the baby may look like, and we'll "love my little baby anyway." The overall message of acceptance and love, no matter what others may think, is a great theme for kids.

This is a darling story that shows how much love a mother has for her babies - she will love them no matter what they look like. The doctor tells the mother several things that worry him about the baby (like having purple hair) and she replies that it's okay, she will love him anyway. The ending is a fun surprise and gave us a good chuckle.

I love this unusual book and the children in my class love it too. It is different then most kids books and keeps them guessing until the very end.

This request is rather late in coming. I ordered it a couple years ago while doing my observations. It is a delightful children's story, full of surprizes and humor. THe students respond well to the invented situations.
