Why isn't this movie available from amazon?
Why is the price from 2nd party sellers so ridiculously high.I did a review of this movie on vhs several years ago and asked everyone who wanted this out on dvd to click yes if this was a helpful review.91 out of 91 said yes. So I again ask all of you to say yes if you want this dvd at a reasonable price.

Most Memorable Films,
By
This review is from: Purple Hearts [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I gave this film 5 stars and perhaps I did over-rate it. But not by that much if one takes into consideration how much staying-power a film can have. This poignant drama of war and love still resonates with me years later as one of the finest Vietnam era films ever made. As others have noted, this movie is long...long overdue to be put out on a dvd. Com'on Hollywood...Get on the stick!

One of the best Vietnam films made,

Both my husband (a Vietnam combat vet, 1967) and I love this film and it's one of our all-time favorites. To begin, it's just a really good story which pulls you right into all the action. It quite realistically depicts the war and the various relationships and life in a war zone (my husband found it quite authentic), and best of all it's a wonderful, rich love story with an ending which takes my breath away every single time I watch it. Unlike so many Vietnam war movies of the era, it does NOT indulge in the usual Hollywood anti-war bashing. It tells it like it was in terms of the war, it's honest, but the main thing in this film is the story and the characters--all great and totally believable, and the Vietnam war is the dramatic backdrop without the typical negative agenda. This is really not at all a "chick flick" in any way, but it's a love story with very compelling war action and overall it is very appealing to both men and women. Ken Wahl and Cheryl Ladd are perfect in their roles. Now if they would just put this one on DVD!

THE SECOND CASUALTY OF WAR,
By
This review is from: Purple Hearts [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If innocence is the first casualty of war, romance is certainly the second. Both are explored in PURPLE HEARTS, Sidney J. Furie's second Vietman installment, 6 years post his classic THE BOYS IN COMPANY C. This could have been the Vietman War chick flick but instead it's a tight drama with solid acting by leads Ken Wahl and Cheryl Ladd, and great support by James Whitmore, Jr. (fantastic as a stoic CIA operative), Stephen Lee and the always great R. Lee Ermey, playing (what else?) a USMC gunnery sergeant. Get this one and BOYS to DVD ASAP.

This movie is a sleeper, and excellent movie that never got alot of publicity. It is a must have for Viet Nam movie lovers. A great combination of action, love, tragedy, and comedy set in the turmoil of the Viet Nam war.

This is both a love story and a war story. I'm not big on war movies, however, this is one of my favorite films. I wish they would bring it out on DVD.
This story is about a doctor (Wahl) that enlists in the service during war time in what seems to be an escape from the life that he was leading. He is engaged to be married and is set up to have his own practice when he gets home. She (Ladd) is a nurse that he meets after transporting a critical patient to the area hospital. There is instant attraction between them. He starts to take some risks in order to be able to see her. He also risks his life in order to spend some R&R time with her. He realizes that he never really loved his fiance and falls in love with her (Ladd). It is a wonderful film and depicts some of the many hardships and heartbreaks of war. The acting is a little hammy at times, however the storyline is fabulous. I would highly recommend watching this film.

Romantic War movie,

This movie is soley for people who just want to watch a love story. The added bonus is that it takes place in war times. If you are looking for a war movie, it might not be what your looking for but as a love story, it is really enjoyable.I highly enjoyed it.

Relevant Even Today,
By
This review is from: Purple Hearts [VHS] (VHS Tape)
While this pic is set during the VietNam war, it is still very relevant today with what is going on in the world. I feel it is an accurate depiction of the horrors of war, the lonliness of the soldiers and nurses and the compassion of the military personnel. Ken Wahl and Cheryl Ladd are excellent as the leads and your heart aches for them when they are apart and then finally reunited. The reunion never fails to bring tears to my eyes. This should be seen by all.
