Book Description

A killer strikes. A love rekindled. A life-altering choice.

When her best friend, is murdered, Reyna Cruz doesn’t believe the police have the whole story. An investigator by trade, she has the talent to track Summer’s killer, but when clues lead to a family connection and a vicious gang, she suddenly becomes the hunted. At the end of her rope, Reyna must decide to trust the God she believes abandoned her.

Wanting justice for his sister’s murder, lawyer Jimmy Corbeau agrees to help Reyna—even though she’s his ex-fiancé, and their break-up devastated him. Romance is reawakened, but so are memories of their tragic undoing. Jimmy must decide if he will fight for a future with Reyna or allow their past to derail the investigation and his second chance at love.

When the investigation goes awry and Summer’s infant daughter is kidnapped, Reyna must put her life on the line. Will Jimmy and Reyna survive the desperate measures it takes to recover his niece, catch a killer, and secure a happily-ever-after for them all?

5.0 out of 5 stars An exceptional romantic mystery July 20, 2011
Purple Knot
By Raquel Byrnes

Literary agent Terry Burns says exceptional Christian books are the only ones being published today because so many good books are being written.
Since I read books like a hungry man devouring food at a buffet, I am seeing the truth of what Burns says. It seems most inspirational novels I'm reading are well written, tell a good story and have characters that make me care about what happens. In other words, today's Christian novelists are producing outstanding books.
Purple Knot is one of these. It's unusual that the private eye who is the main character is a woman, and the gal, Reyna, keeps the reader in knots as she pursues the killer of her best friend, Summer. Those knots have nothing to do with the Purple Knot, however.
Reyna's friend's brother, Jimmy, joins Reyna in trying to find enough evidence to pin the crime on Summer's abusive husband, Parker, who has left his wife bruised and broken on many other occasions. Solving the crime is not easy, however, so Reyna uses every investigative device she knows about, putting her own life in danger. But the biggest risk is when she starts snooping into Parker's private business deals. Summer was wealthy--and her husband surely wants the money.
Jimmy is as committed to solving the crime as Reyna, but he also believes in leaving it to the police if going forward puts you at risk.
Jimmy and Reyna have a romantic history, long ago dissolved. Will they be able to solve the murder and how will it affect their relationship?
By the time you find out you'll probably lose sleep--especially if you read in bed. But you'll discover the meaning of the Purple Knot, as well as be amazed at how the tangled plot finally is tied into a beautiful bow and Reyna regains her faith in God.
I recommend this book.
Note: A review copy of Purple Knot was provided to me by White Rose Publishing and the author.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Right as Rain" June 4, 2011
The Purple Knot will make you feel right as rain!
Raquel Byrnes, author, writes about Reyna Cruz, a spitfire of a private investigator,
and you'll be caught in the twists and turns that accompany the well-developed plot of this novel.
After the death of her best friend, Summer, a death for which she's blamed,
Reyna Cruz sets out to prove her innocence while digging
too closely into personal information that will expose the real killer.
On her journey, she is reunited with her childhood sweetheart, Jimmy, Summer's brother,
but can he overcome the pain she caused him when she left him four years earlier?
Unable to come to grips with God's handling of the loss in their previous relationship,
Reyna struggles to resolve her faith issues as she fights to save
her relationship with the one and only man she's ever loved- the man who finds it
difficult to balance his emotions with her risk taking.
Just when you're convinced the cops will step in and cuff someone,
you couldn't be more wrong. Ms. Byrnes has a way of leading you
astray in such a way, you'll never see the actual ending coming.
If you can only afford one, pick this for your summer read! You will KNOT be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! July 2, 2011
Oh people, if you love suspense, intrigue and romance you have GOT to read "Purple Knot" by Raquel Byrnes. I loved, loved, loved it. I started reading the 349 page book this morning. I was so enamored that I barely put it down. Even when I did, I had to hurry through whatever I was doing to get back to it. The very first paragraph pulls you in and keeps you involved until the very last page.

I love romance; I like suspense. This was the best of both worlds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roller Coaster Ride! September 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Chock full of spine tingling, edge of your seat thrills, Purple Knot sets the bar in Inspirational romantic suspense. Raquel Byrnes puts you on a roller coaster ride that climbs so high, you know the drop is going to be thrilling. Purple Knot never lets you down from the heart-breaking first scene to the twist at the end. Expect the unusual from heroine Reyna Cruz and company, starting with the first person point of view to the real-world life of a private detective...a sometimes boring world of reports and research that suddenly turns deadly. Did I mention the gut-wrenching second chance at love story and a faith born out of the ashes? I have to repeat myself, Purple Knot sets the bar for Inspirational romantic suspense and I for one can't wait to see where Raquel Brynes takes us next. I know I'll be on board!

5.0 out of 5 stars Private Eye with a Romantic Twist July 25, 2011
Private Eye Reyna (Rain) Cruz feels like she just lost her best friend. Probably because she has. And Rain knows who to blame: the victim's abusive husband.

While that would be a disastrous start for many novels, which either underplay an emotional response or fall into a pit of maudlin sentiment, Byrnes portrays a perfect blend of competence and concern as Rain, aided by her intern and the victim's brother (Rain's former fiance) set out to prove the husband's guilt.

Straightforward? Hardly. What follows is a series of twists, turns, and dangerous developments that will delight both mystery and suspense (and romance) readers.

If this is her debut novel, I can't wait for the next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enough romance to soften the suspense July 10, 2011
This debut novel definitely deserves five stars. The suspense is full throttle and the details of the heroine's investigative abilities are believable and detailed. The dangers of this type of work are well placed. The characters are well developed and each character is very interesting. Jimmy's fears balanced with the need to solve the crime make him a loved hero. The plot keeps the reader moving through the book, but brings many surprises along the way and there is just enough romance to soften the suspense. Well done Ms Byrnes! I look forward to the next release.

More About the Author

Raquel writes across several genres including YA Steampunk and Gothic Mystery. Always looking for another adventure in which to partake she is never seen without her notebook.

As a teen she couldn't get enough Bradbury, Asimov, Poe, or Matheson. They informed her love of science fiction, mystery, and thrillers. One of her favorite stories is Something Wicked This Way Comes. It changed the way she looked at scenery and the world around her.

After finishing school, marrying, and starting a family, Raquel realized she'd fallen away from her love of the written word. She began in earnest in 2000 to hone her craft and connect with other authors and book lovers.

She connected with an agent and after signing with him, sold two series. One, a suspense series that also sold into foreign translation, and the other a dark gothic mystery. Currently working on YA Steampunk, she endeavors to bring the same edgy characters and thrilling pace to the project.
