I got this 10-in-1 USB 2.0 High Speed Card Reader for 'free' with the purchase of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 16GB, so I have very low expectation to begin with. With that in mind, here are my observations:

- The name '10-in-1' is a great exaggeration. Basically, this is a SD/SDHC card reader. It can also read MMC/MMC-plus cards because they are physically the same size as SD cards. So at most you can call it a '4-in-1' reader. The other 6 formats (mini-SD/SDHC micro-SD/SDHC, rs-MMC, whatever) all require adapters to be used in this card reader.

- The transparent plastic case looks pretty, but it is very cheaply made. On my unit there is a crack across the top, which was probably caused during shipping in a plain envelope.

- The USB end is wider and fatter than an ordinary USB plug (see my Customer Image). That means you cannot plug it into an USB port if any of the neighboring ports is occupied.

- The device is not recognized by my desktop and laptop computers when it is first plugged in. After much experimentation, I found out that if I remove the unit and re-insert it immediately, then it is recognized by the computer. None of my other USB card readers (including the Transcend S5 which I also got for 'free' with Transcend 16 GB SDHC) exhibited this problem.

- As a card reader, it is slow. I benchmarked a Transcend class-6 SDHC card with this reader. The read/write speed I got is about 5% slower than that obtained when using the Transcend S5 card reader.

As mentioned before, I got this item for 'free' (except for a $1.49 shipping fee), so it is still acceptable as a backup SDHC card reader. But I would be very disappointed if I have to pay good money for it.

We were pleased to find an inexpensive card reader, but when it arrived, neither a windows Vista nor a windows 7 computer would acknowledge it.
Sending a note to the provider via Amazon resulted in immediate action and another one was sent without need for returning the defective one.
The replacement reader has proven very effective and such a prompt response from the vendor was very pleasing, taking the sting out of the original disappointment.

I originally purchased this item for a MicroSD chip I have. The price was great, and aesthetically the item is appealing. However, upon receiving it, I discovered it doesn't read MicroSD without some sort of adapter.
The packaging was cheaply made, and it struck me as something I'd find in a dollar store.
On the bright side, the product worked immediately when I plugged it in, and my laptop had no problems recognizing it. At least I can use it with my cameras SD card, I suppose.

Well it took a while to get to me, but it was during the hurricane so its okay, but it worked great when it got here. The only other problem was that it was not the color it said it was its black but that's okay too.

Bought this item to read my 8gb sdhc memory chip so I can upload pics I took on my camera. I love this product! Its super light weight, portable, and it reads really quickly in my laptop....totally Love it.....

This card reader works on most memory cards. Very useful if you have several different types of memory cards and want to have one product that accepts almost all types of cards.

This memory card reader is very helpful to me. The only reason I gave it a 4star is because sometimes its hard to fit/slip in your memory card. Another pro to this product is that it's soooo cheap!

I have not used this product as of yet but it appears to be exactly what was described when I purchased it. The seller was quick to send the product out which is always appreciated.

For most products, there are pros and cons. This is the first product that I have purchased on Amazon for which there are only cons. I purchased the blue card reader and they gave me this purple one for free plus the cost of shipping and handling. It does not work! Thanks to NLee the Engineer's review, I found out that after plugging in the blue card reader and then pulling it out and replugging it immediately, it will sometimes recognize it. I did this about 10 times for the purple one and no such luck. On every 3rd try, there will be 1 blink of the red indicator light and then nothing. For every 1 in 10 tries, my laptop will give me a little message that says it does not recognize the USB device. Argh. If any of you have ever had an old car with an starter problem. It's like that. You turn the ignition and after several tries, maybe it'll start. Not only am I frustrated with these defective products, but I'm also stuck with them. According to Seller's return policy, I believe I would have to pay for return shipping and they'll try to exchange it first and if they don't have the product in stock then they'll issue a return but there's a 15% restocking fee. In short, these 2 card readers are going into the trash. Not only that but I'm unlikely to purchase anything from this Seller in the future. I can't trust a Seller that would sell such a product and not even have a return policy that would give me the piece of mind to give them another try.

The first reader I got stopped working after about 3 weeks. When I contacted the seller, he sent me a replacement, but that was DOA as well. Only some wiggling got it to light up but the light would instantly go off.
The quality of these readers leaves a lot to be desired. Even for the cheap price of less than $3 (after shipping), it is a waste of money.
But on a positive note, at-least my data on the SDHC card is safe and can be accessed through a better quality reader. :-)

The only silver lining here was my good experience with the seller (eTech), which I have reflected in the seller review.
