Music With A Purpose,
By
This review is from: Purpose (Audio CD)
Don't you love it when you discover an artist that is refreshing and few people are even hip to how good they are? Well, even though few know who Algebra Blessett is, that could all change with the release of her debut solo album Purpose. With the direction of neo-soul mastermind Kedar Massenburg, Algebra is well on her way to enlightening the world with her soulful selections. She opens up the album with the simple yet introspective song "At This Time." Emerging as a go-to music producer, Kwame (yes, the one who had the polka dots) delivers some stellar production for the songs "Halfway" and "Run And Hide." "U Do It For Me" is a nice mid-tempo cut where she describes how she caters to her significant other because they deserve it. "Happy After" talks about getting past the hard times to get to the good times while "My Pride" is a track produced by Brian Michael Cox that speaks to the reluctance to tell someone that they messed up and want to try to work it out. "Simple Complication" is a tale about a man stepping out and having a child with another woman and feeling obligated to leave her to be a real father. The song "What Happened?" questions how things fell apart in a relationship. "No Idea" is another track about hiding your true feelings for someone you love. "Tug of War" describes the back-and-forth rigamarole between lovers who basically need to either work it out or break-up. "Can I Keep U?" is a story about being obsessed with a lover and being too attached to them. "I Think I Love U" talks about risking a longtime friendship with another and wanting to take the next step. Algebra makes an impassioned plea for forgiveness and not walking away from it all on "Come Back." She closes the album with a simple, laidback tune about being a singer on "Now And Then." Algebra definitely proves to be a up-and-coming artist with enormous potential to make it big. And with the release of Purpose, she can only hope that everybody that hears this album will witness her talent and thinks the same way.

I'll be really honest, and say I had never heard of Algebra until I came across her on iTunes when the mini-store led me to her. I checked out a few samples of her music, and right there and then I bought a copy of her CD. It is simply fantastic and awesome. I don't really know who she is still, but her voice is superb and heavenly and the music is soulful with jazz tones and some up-tempo songs (Can I Keep U? - one of my favourites). I really believe this girl is going somewhere - she has one of the best voices I've heard and if you are a fan of R&B, Soul, Jazz and Pop, then this cd is something you have to check out for yourself. There is 14 songs here and I love every single one of them. Do yourself a favour and go grab a copy. It's amazing and a great new talent.

I stumbled across Algebra on myspace. I was immediately attracted to the fresh music and honest lyrics. I have been following her for a couple of years, now. It seems that her music says exactly what I feel. Until this album cam out, I always had "Tug of War" and "What Happened" on my mp3 player; I never deleted these songs. But now, I keep playing "At this Time" and "I think I love you".
Algebra Blessett is one of the most refreshing artist to come out since Jill Scott. She needs someone to push her career. I will be buying several more copies of the CD to give to friends. I can't wait to see her live.

I had never heard of Algebra prior to reviewing it online however when I got the cd, i had no clue what I was missing. This cd is awesome. You will definately love the soulful sound of her voice. If you love Angie Stone, Anthony Hamilton and all of the other soulful singers out, then you will love her.

She needs a better set of producers,

I cannot be too hard on my girl here. She has a wonderful voice. But you know that it is the mood of the music that makes one really enjoy the songs. I just could not feel the mood. It wasnt because of her voice. Her producers[label] made her sound like everyone else out there, which is typical of the music industry but with one expection - lack of production talent. I hope she gets a chance to get on another label or around different artists so she can network with better producers. She needs someone who is not going to feed her beats, and say sing on this, but rather hear her voice and push her to bring out the very best.

Throughout her cd "Purpose" you can fell the drive and determination that she exhibits throughout especially after the road that took her to finally getting this excellent first cd to finally see the light of day.
After many holdups and whatnot "Purpose" is finally on us and its one that should garner much attention from people that already knew about her through whatever channels. But also people like me that just decided to check this out and see what's really going on with cd. Its an excellent first effort and through each track, Algebra has a jazzy, old school vibe to her voice that really serves the cd very well. I hope that she continues to gain more attention and a stronger fan base that will wonders for her in the future and maybe some touring as well. So that the name Algebra will be known by many more folks in the music business.
