Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

This parable teaches principles of management with a spiritual bent by telling the story of a businessman who is appointed to run a company facing bankruptcy. Through conversations with interesting characters he learns how to rebuild the company and make it prosper. "On-Purpose" means focusing on all areas where each individual joins, belongs, and contributes to an organization. The on-purpose business theme is built upon four pillars, which include "meaning," or the purpose principle, which coordinates the purpose of the person with the purpose of the organization (business, not-for-profit, or any type of organization). The second pillar is "mindset," or the need for each individual to think and act like the president by taking personal responsibility. The "service model," or the method of building a business, is the third pillar, and the fourth is the "manner of operation," or doing more of what one does best more profitably. The story device is not unique in management books, but it still may appeal to a wide readership. Mary Whaley

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally -- a business book with a heart, November 1, 1999
This review is from: The On-Purpose Business: Doing More of What You Do Best More Profitably (Hardcover)
Rarely have I been moved by reading a "business" book -- until now. This book touched me -- explaining in logical detail why it is important to align our head, hands, and heart in our business endeavors, as in all areas of our lives. Businesses who follow these guidelines will be successful -- both financially and with an abundance of happy, motivated, enthusiastic employees. Written in story format, this book is a quick read with a marvelous lesson for anyone involved in any kind of business. Individuals can also apply the lessons to their daily lives to increase their personal sense of fulfillment and happiness. I'm sending a copy of this book to the CEO of the company I used to work for! The book's message is wonderful -- and very motivational.

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding book that clarifies many important issues!, March 31, 1998
This review is from: The On-Purpose Business: Doing More of What You Do Best More Profitably (Hardcover)
So many organizations today are trying to do "more with less" and are trying to be "all things to all Customers." This book provides insight into why you cannot experience long-term success without being On-Purpose. I wish Corporate American, from the top-down, would use this book as a strategic "blue print!"

5.0 out of 5 stars On Purpose with the Master, June 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I worked through the whole "On Purpose Person" process when reading his first book and that was helpful. This book is the business version of the same thing. I appreciate the subtitle, "Doing More of What you Do Best More Profitably." In my business clearly some things I do better than others and to capitalize on those things is most helpful. There are some great concepts and ideas about how to run an on purpose business in the book, check it out!
