About the Author

Kristine M Smith is a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Formally baptized on September 14th, 1999 following a revelation by the Holy Spirit as detailed in this volume, Kris has pursued God non-stop ever since. "Nothing else matters as much to me any more. That makes me a fruitcake, I suppose - to everyone but God and other believers!" A member of Church for All Nations in Tacoma, Washington, Kris has been an animal welfare advocate and humane education staff worker and executive director, a wild and domestic animal caretaker, an animal rescue worker, and an executive secretary and hardware lease administrator at Warner Bros. Studios. She is presently "heart at work" at Church For All Nations as an administrative assistant to a Pastor. She occasionally travels nationally & internationally to appear at STAR TREK conventions to share with fans personal memories of her mentor (and writing career-launcher), the late actor DeForest Kelley. This is her fourth book.

UPDATE 2011: THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PURCHASED "SERVAL SON" ON ITS OFFICIAL DEBUT DAY, SEPT.1, 2011. Because you all banded together and bought it on the same date, SERVAL SON made it to #2 in the Animal Rights category and #4 in the Nature>Fauna category. Its reviews have been heartwarming to read, too.

And now... for a brief non-animal bio (since you've probably already read the animal-centric one):

Author Kristine M Smith has been a fan of DeForest Kelley for almost five decades. She has also meandered among his fans at numerous conventions and at individual and collective ceremonies honoring him and the science fiction series he helped forge into an iconic legend. She writes: "I have witnessed first-hand the enormous love and respect people have for De. And I continue to see, almost daily, how people have remained enchanted with him, even following his passing in 1999. Millions of people were immediately and acutely affected by his unanticipated death. Tens of thousands of them expressed outright anguish ' feelings akin to losing one's best friend or a family member. A single, cursory visit to just one of numerous DeForest Kelley websites (national and international) proves the veracity of this declaration.

"Categorically and undeniably, De became -- and will endure as -- one of the most-loved and best-remembered personalities in the world. His Dr. McCoy is at the heart of STAR TREK's mythology, and TREK is a tenacious mythology which will last until the day humans forget how to aspire to a higher standard for themselves and their progeny.

"De was my friend, but he was also my hero -- one of very few heroes whose durability was sorely tested, yet found to be utterly reliable. I wrote this book (DeFOREST KELLEY: A HARVEST OF MEMORIES) to show how deeply De influenced my life ' and to remind you, his fans and friends, how seamlessly and comfortably he fitted into yours.

"I undertook this endeavor for the millions of fans who never had the pleasure of meeting De 'up close and personal.' My sincerest goal for this book is that it will validate every intuition you ever had about DeForest Kelley being one of Hollywood's 'good guys.'"

Smith has been an animal welfare advocate and humane education staff worker and executive director, a wild and domestic animal caretaker, an animal rescue worker, an executive secretary at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, and an Activity Director at an assisted living facility. She was DeForest Kelley's personal assistant and caregiver at the end of his life.

For the past four years she has been a copywriter, creating riveting copy for businesses here at home and around the globe. Find out more at kristinemsmith.biz.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purposeful Christianity - From One Who Spreads The Verve, June 23, 2004

This review is from: Purposeful Christianity: Sharing the Verve and Value of the Prince of Peace (Paperback)
Kris confesses that she is a 'beginner Christian' at the start of this book and as the pages progress so does her story and her love of God and all things good (us)!
From her 'call' to be baptised, through her finding a church that could really be called 'hers' and her following study of the Bible, Kris professes the love of God through her words and the enthusiasm with which she chases God and wants to show other people how to find the good things in God's love for us.
I did three years of Christian Scriputures at university and wished I had happened upon things I found in this book. Loving God and understanding the Bible were explained in ways which were both simple yet profound here.
Purposeful Christianity is an easy to understand book with fanstastic and loving revelations. I believe that people seeking Christianity and those who have been in the love of God for many years will find it an enlightening and uplifting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purposeful Christianity, October 11, 2006

This review is from: Purposeful Christianity: Sharing the Verve and Value of the Prince of Peace (Paperback)
Kristine Smith's Book "Purposeful Christianity" was a pleasure to read. I say this because it is what I call a comfortable, relational book. As I read through the chapters it seemed like I was sitting down at a small table at Starbucks chatting with a Christian friend as she shared her life in Christ. Contained in the book are experiences and thoughts that are common to most Christians, and that is where the value is in its reading. It reminds you of yourself. The struggles, the revelations, the learning curve, the doubts, the questions, the testing of faith, the amazement of what God can do, the trusting in the God who saved you, all are there to be relived in the words of another believer. Don't get me wrong, the book is not just a casual read. There is plenty of meaty doctrine hidden amongst the sentences of personal witness. There is also great wisdom from God to be gleaned as you contemplate what is shared. God works through all of us as His Holy Spirit uses our natural talents and spiritual gifts to encourage each other in our faith and "Purposeful Christianity" is a labor of love from a dedicated Christian woman. I oversee several Bible studies and quoted from the book in several instances to complement my teaching and others saw what I had seen, the common bond we all have in Christ as we share our lives and how God works in them. I would highly recommend "Purposeful Christianity" to anyone who wants to learn a little of what Christianity is all about from a committed follower of Jesus Christ, King of kings.

I pray that this book will do for every reader what it has done for Anne Richardson in Australia. I cried when I read her review, realizing how God has used me to impart knowledge of the Bible she did not receive while studying the Bible at a university.

I pray that fellow Christians (and those wondering about the faith) will find this book compelling and that you will give copies as gifts to anyone you know who is seeking an intimate, personal relationship with the Prince of Peace. May this book truly change lives in eternal ways!
